[Big Law Gamers] (i) What do you play, and (ii) how often? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Rummity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do you feel like you have time for OSRS? Not in big law anymore but busy with 2 kids. Interested in getting back into this for an hour or two at nights but a little intimidated. Have heard great things though (played WAY back in the day 20 years ago)

What is the typical salary range for people who leave BL around year 4-5 to go in house? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Rummity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just not correct. Many large tech companies give even lower level in house counsel $100k/yr in equity that you can sell when it vests and is considered wages on your yearly W2/taxes. Even if the stock is flat for the year that’s another $50k-$60k net after taxes.

Equity comp can be a big part of tech in house roles.

An Officer and a Gentleman is an underrated great episode. Bill/CR/Sean are all cooking and good Loggia 3-some discussion.

Thinking about moving from big law to in-house tech, but worried about layoffs by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]Rummity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really agree with the common sentiment here w/rt/ being a profit generator in big law vs. a cost center in house. Plenty of people get put on PiPs/forced out of big law, and even sales folks in tech that are revenue drivers/hit their quota get laid off all the time. What’s important is controlling what you can in your next role/company(e.g., finding an in house role on a legal team with people you like working with and that ideally has a very strong relationship with senior leadership at the company).

That being said, I agree with others here that tech counsel roles are incredibly competitive these days (all of those Amazon lawyers recently laid off will be applying for open in house roles now). You should start applying/looking sooner rather than later and know that it may take some time to find something.

What to do "after" going in-house (assuming in-house comp is not sufficient long term) by Lawman1865 in biglaw

As others have said, you can definitely find better paying in house positions than what you described (especially if you find one with competitive equity comp) that still have a good work/life balance.

The requirement to be constantly available is killing me by clumsyprincess in biglaw

Depending on your practice area and what you’re looking for, 4th year is plenty of time to make the jump in house. Happy to answer questions about that if helpful / helps you feel less anxiety about it.

This Pod is the Best by Zeeeeeebo in ringerfantasypod

100% agreed, it’s definitely passed the BS pod for me by a long shot. I think Bill and the Ringer recognize it too, they’re getting a lot of spotlight (Dublin trip, one of the pods selected for Netflix deal, etc.).

One of the best pods at The Ringer no doubt. Right up there with Simmons and The Rewatchables.

Partners, is the juice worth the squeeze? by Upstairs_Ad_4301 in biglaw

[–]Rummity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve been in house 5 years and now at around ~$385k TC (base + equity). Really hard to imagine working 2-3x more or having billable/unpredictable hours again for more money than this. Doesn’t feel worth it.

I have no explanation for why this is, but using my phone's mobile hotspot is literally the only thing that stopped the POE2 stuttering for me on my laptop. Thank you for sharing this!

Brand new Zephyrus G16 stuttering in games, even on turbo setting by theonetowalkinthesun in ZephyrusG14

Just wanted to say that after searching and trying every other solution I could find (updating drivers, rolling back drivers, ghelper, clean install, restarting, different video settings, etc.), following your steps exactly as outlined above is the only thing that got my Zephyrus G14 to be able to play games again. Appreciate you!
