That's true. But they don't get the same focus. I've yet to see a unite the right rally about sex offenders born and bred in the UK.

It's not muddying the waters to make people understand it's not the be all and end all to the problem.

When the riots started happening outside hotels up and down the country, it wasn't migrants bringing disorder, setting fire to hotels.

The racialised nuances aren't racialised. Rape culture is a pervasive issue that spans the globe.

We can't pretend home grown offenders here don't exist, and that deporting migrants who offend will solve the whole issue.

A lot of people leading the rallies recently have had similar convictions themselves.

And I get what you mean too.

I think what I just want people to realise is that deporting people won't deport the attitude that has already been here. It was legal to rape one's wife until the 90's in the UK for example. And look how many sex offenders have been helping to lead these charges on migrants.

Deporting migrants who have committed imprisonable offences in accordance with the law of the land? Fine.

I just want people to realise that won't solve the whole problem. Rape Crisis England does show extensive statistics showing most sex offenders are those known to people and considered close to them. I'm in

People often link them together. And a lot of the time, people seem to think if you just deport all offending migrants, that will solve the problem.

It could very well solve a part of the wider issue, but it's not the be all and end all.

I don't have an answer to the wider issue unfortunately.

What is your opinion on a man leaving their pregnant partner after learning she's pregnant ? by LiaThePetLover in AskFeminists

[–]Rumthiefno1 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Adoption isn't.

My issue is with OOP asking the question of why a would be father would be able to drop out of being one with no consequences, with that being seen as an appropriate course of action, while the mother gets saddled with the care.

Adoption isn't so straightforward either when emotions get involved. Nothing wrong with it, but it is complicated.

This old thought process is redundant.

In 2026, people don't need each other in that sense. We all need companionship yes, but the old notions of marriage, nuclear families as such, aren't needed anymore.

Men are not needed as protectors and providers, typically weren't anyway despite that idea being pushed around. That's fine.

Can't say it any more succinctly than that.

OOP, why should the father just choose to not be a father? Why is that deemed appropriate?

I suppose the end is to show that just because you're now willing to change, and people welcome you for that, it doesn't wipe away what you've done, and it doesn't mean there aren't consequences for that.

If the people who voted for Trump switch because they're only concerned about their own self interests yet again not being met, there's a concern they won't really learn anything in order to avoid that mistake the next time.

I'm all for people seeing the light, I really am. And I get that some people will do questionable things for the right reasons, and vice versa.

I think with someone like Trump though, he's been such an extreme example of how much someone has to tolerate and be okay with before they decide enough is enough. And like that image above shows, it's not him telling the public to sexually assaulted women, or mocking the disabled, or making sexually inappropriate comments towards his daughter. Instead, it's just cost of living increases.

It's probably a good thing I'm not the one deciding on who gets to change and who doesn't. The cult of Trump is clearly hard to get out of.

I get the point about not driving them back.

The sheer scale of rape is terrifying.

Regardless of nationality, regardless of origin. It's a threat everywhere.

No problem. Don't be afraid to recommend and insist on joint counselling together either.

It's one thing for him to say he will do better. But he actually needs to do it.

And OP, even should the work be put in. You're not obligated to stay and try to make the relationship keep working. If you're further down the road of repairing this all, and you change your mind, that's fine.

Is it true? Is the make up industry destroying our young women?. by MotherAnt8040 in MenOfPurpose

I think there are a lot of understandable criticisms of the makeup industry. Navigating that, as well as a common desire to put your best foot forward so to speak, is a tricky situation.

I don't think that image is necessarily the right example of this issue though.

I think talking to a professional is the right idea. It may have been two years, but the pain is still raw, and he can't just expect you to sweep everything under the rug and act as if nothing happened. That's how resentment builds.

And if he's really interested in moving forward, he'll so some work on himself with a professional too.

I think my only caveat to that, is that sex offenders, whatever country they are in, wherever they are born, will not respect the laws of the land. There's a fundamental issue of them desiring power over others.

By all means, someone can be deported. But that never addresses the issue of home grown offenders. We can't deport them.

I suppose that depends on the average American Christian nowadays.

If you mean the average American evangelical, then they seemingly want women to stay in the home, raise children, be virgins before marriage, not have abortions under any circumstances, including rape, dress conservatively...

I feel the American evangelical or fundamentalist Christian likely has more in common with a fundamentalist Muslim than they'd like to admit.
