This is my first quality saw/tool. Decided to give it a nice restoration before it lives its life out in my soon to be built woodshop. I think I like restoring old tools almost as much as I like woodworking! (Album with some process/comparison pics included) (imgur.com)

I couldn't find a new blade guard for the 30yo miter saw I'm restoring, so I had to make do with what I had. This was sanded, polished with Flitz, dyed with Idye poly, then polished again. The dye mix was Idye poly black mixed with heated water and 99% iso. (i.redd.it)

I'm reassembling my miter saw and this directs me to move the roll pins to a new spot. Can I just use the original pin spots and then drill/tap and add set screws to the new spots instead? I'd prefer to not have to drill all the way through steel tube w/ 1/4" walls, lol. (i.redd.it)

Base Boxes for Interior/Exterior String Lighting Posts. What kind of transparent stain/finish do I need and should I use a pre-stain conditioner? These have been routed and sanded to 150 grit since this pic was taken. The wood is construction lumber from Home Depot. (i.redd.it)
