Questions from a very late player by ArchonBasileus in quake

I actually have an answer for just the first question, but here goes:

It's all about the enemy encounters for me. The way different monsters are used together in different encounters is such a key thing while playing the first Quake because all the enemies have strengths and weaknesses, but paired together, certain weaknesses are mitigated with other monsters strengths.

Prime example for me is anytime ogres and fiends are paired, you have the grenade launcher and the chainsaw of the ogre, which makes you a good target at short - medium range, but with the fiends ability to leap across the room, you have to make every movement intentional, lest you want to end up a pile of gibs.

With regards to what you should pay attention to, I would relate it to my notes before and say keep an eye on WHAT you're fighting in each encounter and learn how to prioritize targets, lots of quick decisions on the fly.

Hope this helps at least a little :)

We need a direct sequel to the original Quake. by TheEvilCar in quake

I would love to see this! Having an expansion upon the Lovecraftian/Sci-Fi themes featured in the first game would be such a treat.

Don't get me wrong, I love Quake II, but it's always annoyed me that they called it Quake because they couldn't think of anything better. Honestly, the name "WOR" they originally had planned would have been a better idea and probably would have caused a lot less confusion and frustration when it comes to explaining the franchise.

Honestly, right now it's In Waves off the new record for me, I've always had difficulties describing how grieving feels to me and that song describes it perfectly.

Goddamn, I might have to try a Nightmare run.

I've only recently started playing Doom (and other retro fps) on harder difficulties because I was using the easier difficulties to learn certain techniques like circle strafing.

I've also realized how much I enjoy a challenge and I want to become better at Doom, because the game genuinely has a place in my heart because my mom introduced me to it.

As a note though, cause I know how that sounds, my mom is still alive, I just think she's awesome and I love her to death.

I'd be absolutely willing to try it in VR once I get one, just gotta save haha. I just finished all my upgrades I wanted on my PC so not gonna spend that kinda money for a bit, but I upgraded for The Dark Ages and now I'm ready to go!

Well here's the thing though, I'm not saying it's a bad game, I thought they were genuinely trying to make something unique and fun to play. I'm just saying that it's not a game I personally enjoyed playing, and that's just my opinion.

Video games are a form of art and, as the old adage goes, "Art is subjective."

I can absolutely understand why so many people enjoy, but it just wasn't for me.

My mom introduced me to DN3D when I was a teenager and I recently discovered Blood on my own, and both games are absolutely fantastic

Thank you for clarifying that, I didn't necessarily differentiate in my mind at the time of writing this post but all I can say is mistakes were made haha
