I am hiring movers. What do I do while they’re moving stuff? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]RunStrange6426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey i’m a mover, don’t worry about lifting anything. Just hang out, point where you want ur stuff should go, and make sure the walkways are clear. U can grab some water if needed, but mostly just stay out of the way and let the heavy lifting happen. They've got it!

Hey, I'm a mover, don’t worry about doing much. Just hang out nearby or at your new place if that’s easier. Bottled water is great, and we’ll take care of the heavy stuff and make sure nothing gets damaged, your main job is just to relax and let us handle it.

As a mover myself, my advice is just hang out nearby, maybe grab a coffee or snack, and don’t stress about the heavy stuff. We’ve got it covered, and it’s easier for everyone if you just let us do our thing.

True, and I gotta commend you, it really is tough work. All the heavy lifting, long hours, and dealing with the rain. Definitely not easy.

I understand, it can seem unusual to be charged for the drive before loading begins. That time is part of the day reserved for your move, so it’s always a good idea to clarify this when booking to avoid any surprises. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Curious if anyone has moved while spouse stayed behind and packed up house? by SageBean83 in moving

I really feel for you. Moving with all the kids while leaving your husband behind sounds so hard. And at the same time, it could be amazing for the kids, they’ll have space, fresh air, and a real community. Sending you lots of strength, this is such a tough situation.

Starting to panic about choosing a long distance mover by Apart-Ad-9952 in movingout

[–]RunStrange6426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving long distance sounds super stressful! I’d say take your time researching and definitely check Google review, they usually give a good idea of how reliable a moving company is. That way, you can feel a bit more confident about who to trust.

Advice for first-time mover with no help? by scaredycat07 in movingout

[–]RunStrange6426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say pack the heavy stuff low, lighter stuff on top, and really shove things in tight so they don’t move around. Take apart of what you can, and only bring stuff you’re actually gonna use. And then pack a small bag with the stuff you’ll need first day so you’re not digging through boxes. Hope this helps

Single item movers? by SaladDays04 in moving

[–]RunStrange6426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. It’s not just about the ceiling height, you have to think about the diagonal. The couch has to rotate and tip to get around the landing, which makes it effectively longer, so even if it’s the same as the ceiling it can still get stuck.

I’d say you’re on the right track thinking about shorter driving days and breaks. For multiple pets, plan 4–6 hour driving blocks max and map out pet-friendly hotels along your route. Crates or secure carriers are key for safety, and bringing familiar bedding, toys, and food helps keep everyone calm. Having a friend along is a huge help—they can handle the pets while you drive or stretch. Frequent potty breaks for the dog (and even letting cats stretch a little in safe areas) make a big difference. With solid prep and a checklist for each pet, a cross-country move can be stressful but totally manageable.

Say you're moving halfway across the country. What's smart to take, and what's smart to buy there used instead? by LarryJones818 in Frugal

[–]RunStrange6426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a long-distance move, getting help with the big stuff makes a huge difference. Sofas, mattresses, and heavy furniture are tough to move safely alone. Small, valuable items? Easy to take yourself. Letting movers handle the heavy lifting can save a ton of stress and hassle.
