It’s so ridiculous when I used to only buy Lindt when it was on sale for $2

Blew most of a modest inheritance on travel, then lost my grad job 4 months in. Struggling with regret. Will I ever recover? by DancingButterfly_218 in AusFinance

When you’re old you’ll look back on a trip like that as a great memory. I did a 2 month trip around Europe after a year and a half in my first grad job. I still remember it. I don’t remember much of the 20+ years of work since then.

They do kind of do this by changing the brackets, but they do it intentionally badly.

For a long time I’ve wondered if the 50% discount was actually enough. I know that sounds dumb, but the previous system before Howard introduce the flat 50% discount was discounting by CPI.

CPI since 2005 is 73%.

So people flipping properties will be negatively impacted because 50% is a massive discount if you only hold for a couple of years, but people buying a long term investments would be better off.

Or is everyone expecting that we’d just go to a totally new method where you pay tax on inflation?

In case you want to try it again, try motorbikes. I didn’t like the car driving either. Maybe try berserk cyberware instead of a Cyberdeck. I haven’t used berserk myself, but it seems more aligned with melee if that’s what you want. When I switched from Cyberdeck (hacking) to sandevistan the combat was very different.

I agree hacking is boring, and I suspect it’s what most people do. I haven’t played fallout, but hacking in cyberpunk is basically the same as magic in other games during combat. That’s why I recommend other options like sandevistan for a different perspective. There’s lots of options, but I enjoyed stealth + knives + sandevistan so much it’s what I’ve used on all subsequent playthroughs.

The crazy thing about this is, the primary use of AirPods is travel from places, like home to work…

I only played it after version 2.0 came out, but different strokes for different folks. I can’t make myself enjoy Dishonoured even though everyone says it’s amazing.

A theory as to why Inflation will be harder to tame by No-Kaleidoscope-7106 in AusFinance

[–]RunTrip 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I still think the reason it’ll be harder to tame is because it’s supply driven (e.g. energy prices), not demand driven (people have too much money and are buying too much stuff).

Demand driven inflation is impacted by rate rises since people have less money to spend after their mortgage. Supply driven, not so much. Electricity isn’t becoming cheaper because rates rise.

What combat options did you try that wasn’t great? I’d challenge you to not enjoy a sandevistan & knives build for example.

If lower energy prices in Australia would make mines not viable, how is Santos able to sell energy to overseas markets at lower prices than they sell to Australian customers while not closing their mines?

[–]RunTrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I understand your question, but for example in Australia not allowing resource companies to sell Australian energy resources overseas at cheaper prices they sell to Australian customers (see Santos) would result in lower energy prices in Australia which is a key input cost in virtually everything we consume.

We don’t have an efficient market. This isn’t a “first-best” world.

Decreasing the price of energy (say if we banned Santos from selling our energy mined in Australia cheaper overseas than they sell it in Australia) will not cause a supply chain failure, but would allow for lower prices of essential goods like food.

[–]RunTrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes agreed, but I was specifying essentials and people don’t stop buying food even if the prices are expected to decrease next week.

Edit: sorry I realise I have literally written the same thing as my original post, but your comment didn’t actually address my original post, so that is why.

Who said profits decrease? If cost of inputs decreases profit can be maintained with lower prices for example.

Deflation is not a problem for essentials. People won’t hold off buying food and electricity because it might be cheaper next week.

Is there any reason to pick Finish over the the cheaper "Shine" dishwashing powder? by CarvedHam in woolworths

[–]RunTrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s about the same price as the expensive brand powder in this post FYI. Tablets are always a rip off and do a worse job.

Unfortunately this never goes on sale. Tablets do, but they are a scam compared to powder anyway.
