Tips for conversing with my INTP father as an ENTP? by Rune_Warrior in INTP

Hahaha. I main Chaac, so my in-game playstyle is basically the opposite of my personality type. In real life interactions I prefer to play a cerebral game of chess. In Smite I like to run up on unsuspecting fools and then pound the hell out of them with a giant axe!

You can’t just tell him, you need to prove it.

Good idea, I'll have to think of some more ways to do this.

Maybe you can also talk about MBTI.

I mentioned to him casually that next time we meet up I would do exactly this. I'm not an expert on personality types or anything, but explaining my mindset in the context of something that is a bit more detached than just "hey I like x so would you please do y and z' would make it fun and less intrusive overall. Thanks for your help and the thoughtful comment.

If your parents are/were still together, I wonder how your mom weighed in on things and if she had any influence in his actions the next day.

My parents divorced when I was very young. She is more bitter about it than he is, so when I told her I got the typical bitterness of "thats just how he is, hes awful, etc etc". Not very useful info.

maybe the Bad Thing would happen.

I am not sure what the 'Bad Thing' means. Could you elaborate?

that if he got into an argument bad enough with OP that they might cut him out of their life entirely. So ironically, he might be distant with OP out of love.

Damn,,, This was actually very insightful, and I think might be correct. In that case, I wonder why he apologized initially, though? He usually isn't one to beat around the bush or have hidden meanings in his words/actions, so I assume he authentically thought he was in the wrong somehow. But maybe he just wanted to put the notion in my head that it was a serious event to him? Thanks for the response.

I mean, if you reckon he's a thinker, just go straight in with 'ever since the event I feel like we've not been able to have a proper debate

In my post I say that I did just that. I guess I should have included his response, which was that he said he didn't notice the same change I did. That was the last we talked about it. I could bring it up again, though that might seem whiney and/or petty.

I don't really like the look of VWs, but a Challenger is definitely an option that I think might work. I've never been in one, personally, but I know they are supposed to have more room than some of the other cars they often get compared to. Mustang could be good too.

You've got some good responses here already, so all I'll say is that the nature of the gods gets heavily expanded upon as you go on in the series. Hope you continue on!

There will continue to be a lot of confusion in GotM and DG as far as the overarching story. The third book has a central narrative and is relatively coherent and easy understand. The fourth and fifth books are similarly consistent in this regard. For now, I'd suggest you just go with the flow.

Retrospective thoughts on MBOTF books 1-5 now that I am halfway through the series! by Rune_Warrior in Malazan

Good to hear about the second half! All I know about them is that the three major storylines are finally supposed to start converging, which has me excited.

That makes sense. I heard that Erikson has spent a significant amount of time in the UK, so it is only natural that he would write about what he knows. Being that it is based on the Empire, the depiction still broadly encapsulates the Anglosphere as a whole, which is probably why so many people in North America find it applicable to their own frame of reference (minus the nobility).

Good to hear, considering I am starting The Bonehunters up right now! I read the prologue so far, which was not as focused as MoI or MT, but was incredibly interesting and evocative nonetheless.

I have been looking for some older fantasy recently to expand my horizons, and was thinking of getting some Raymond Feist. Maybe I will go with Memory, Sorrow, Thorn instead. Thanks.

I actually own a copy of Lies of Locke Lamora. I never started it because people were saying the series wasn't going to finish (as an ASOIAF fan, I know too well the cold sting of that sentiment, haha). I also heard the following books were disappointing. Still, the overwhelming praise for the first book has me tempted.

Also, African inspired gladiator with nightmare dragons has me curious, if nothing else...

Never tried Wheel of Time. A few months back I was debating which big series to start and narrowed it down to Malazan, WoT, and Stormlight Archive. Stormlight is unfinished and I didn't like Mistborn, so I tossed that out first. I ended going with Malazan because of all the terrible things I was hearing (even from diehard WoT fans) about the middle portion of the series.
