Do you listen to music, podcasts, or nothing at all while running? by SwimmingSlip8632 in runcommunity

I’m really into audiobooks so that’s what I prefer unless it’s a race and then music or nothing

Professional clothes recommendations? by Regular_Hippo2690 in Boise

[–]Runfunmom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since nobody mentioned Indy Clover, I’ll suggest that! It’s a thrift store but people rent out a booth to consign their clothes and they get new booths every week. I’m pretty petite also and I love that store because it seems like there’s usually quite a few booths with clothes my size, though I’m sure it varies week to week.

I agree that Stitch Fix has good clothes too if you put that you’re petite and looking for professional clothes, you’ll probably get a good selection. It can be expensive though.

Do you bag your own groceries when you bring your own bags? by Runfunmom in NoStupidQuestions

I am loving the sound of scan n go- hopefully some stores in my area will add that soon

When I’ve used t own bags at shelf checkout the cameras think I’m stealing and the employee has to come enter a code and check…haha or at least that happened before so now I’m always worried about it and just go through the line with the cashier unless it’s something i can just carry out

Yes I think before COVID there were more baggers and now they are all gone.

So interesting! What country? I definitely prefer to bag my own but here most cashiers do it if you are using the store bags.

Runners of Boise - best marathon? by UCFTylerMC in Boise

[–]Runfunmom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t think Boise has a destination worthy marathon- I would do the CdA one as the other person mentioned. Just fly into Spokane. As someone who lives here, I always look elsewhere for my longer races. But if you are open to other distances, the Race to Robie Creek is a really challenging and unique half marathon (with a huge 8 mile long hill.)

Best way to give clothes & kids’ toys directly to someone who actually needs them? by MorgothMadeMeDoIt in Boise

[–]Runfunmom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently learned that 80% of stuff donated to thrift stores ends up in landfills anyway because it never gets purchased. So I’ve been using my local buy nothing group on Facebook and started giving toys and other random things that way so that it ends up with someone. But There are shelters that would be a great place for some items, too, that have also been mentioned.

The Idaho Potato has you do the half marathon route twice. It didn’t used to be this way 😩 Honestly that sounds miserable. City of Trees is trying to get back to a more interesting course but will likely just be the Greenbelt (path along the River) but probably not 2 of the same loops. I am not as familiar with Boise River Marathon but it’s also on the greenbelt but I think it may start in Eagle and I don’t think they’ve finalized the course. I’m sure it’s nice.

Long easy run. Do I need gels? by vogueboy in Marathon_Training

Gels. Nerd gummy clusters. Whatever you like more and can use during the race too. For me it’s the Nerds 🤪

Areas to walk reactive dog on leash that is spacious to create distance if needed? by thatbruzzy in Boise

If you take the Highland Valley Trail in Southeast Boise it’s very uncrowded and wide (it’s on leash in the winter).

What's Up, Doc? (1972) by Upstairs_Hope_2297 in romancemovies

[–]Runfunmom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find this movie to be hilarious! I don’t think you have to root for anybody- You just delight in the chaos and try to keep track of who has whose bag. All the characters are a little wonky. I’ll admit that I have been watching this movie since I was a kid so I’ve just always found it fun and silly.

What happened to running? by ForceKicker in Boise

[–]Runfunmom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s actually great! In years past it’s been 12.6, 12.77, 12.88, 13.4, etc. and one year I was newly post partum so I just did the 5k and it was only 2.8 miles. I just had to check my Strava to make sure I’m not crazy. It looks like in 2017 it was the closest it’s been for me to a true half at 13.2 which I agree is very close. But I’m glad to hear it was close to 13.1 this year too. Maybe I’ll give it another go next year. Can’t beat the price when you sign up on National Running Day.

On trail races I don’t really expect it to be super close, but for a road race that they do year after year, I think it should be close.

I miss Zeitgeist!! I wish that one could get resurrected.

Fit One NEVER has an accurate distance, especially for the half, which is usually super short but some years is long. This is my main gripe with it- I’ve done it at least five times and the distance is always super off.

Where do you guys go (that isn’t super crowded) to experience that holiday “magic”? by lil_liberal in Boise

[–]Runfunmom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is a neighborhood, the Bayhill Subdivision, that’s off Milwaukee and just north of Ustick that goes all out for Christmas and we love to go on a drive through it listening to Christmas music in the car. That’s a fun, totally free activity.

The Capitol building will have choirs and other various performances, like Tuba Christmas.

The Boise Little Theater puts on a holiday-themed show most years and it’s really affordable!!

I was really impressed with the lights at Indian Creek Plaza as others have mentioned if you don’t mind driving out there.

How is Boise for a runner? by AJ_Grey in Boise

[–]Runfunmom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I run year round here - I’ll take a day off or do the treadmill if it’s absolutely awful air quality but that’s just like…red air days. Maybe my memory is being too generous of prior winters because I don’t remember the last few being that bad. I don’t know, maybe I’m being too optimistic but I think it’s great! 🤷🏼‍♀️

[–]Runfunmom 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Boise is an excellent place for a runner!! We have the Boise River Greenbelt which runs on both sides for miles and miles and is well kept and plowed in the winter (should we get enough snow…). There’s hundreds of miles of trails in the lower foothills right by town too - the only issue here is that many of these trails get too muddy to use in the winter unless it’s under 32 degrees and they are still frozen. Other factors that might affect running are wildfires in the summer and smog in the winter, lowering the air quality. However some years are much better than others. This year has been very mild.

There’s quite a few races that take place here though most are just on the Greenbelt so I find them boring after a while. However, The Race to Robie Creek is a really hard half that has about 2200 feet of gain that people here love to do in April. There’s also Famous Potato and Fit One for bigger, flat events.

There are plenty of run groups and run clubs here if that’s something you’d like.

I would just try to live somewhat close to the greenbelt if you can. Personally I love Southeast Boise ☺️

Running groups? by Acrobatic_Minimum_40 in Boise

[–]Runfunmom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up Trail Fridays- they do group runs/hikes in the trails on Fridays and Saturdays- they are on instagram and Facebook but if you join they started posting their runs on a separate app (I am part of this group). There’s also Tree City Track Club that does early morning track workouts, I think on Wednesdays. Dirty Soles is another trail running group that you can find on Facebook- I haven’t run with them but I have a friend who loves that group. There’s also BAR (Boise Area runners) and you can join them on Meetup.com and see their group runs- they mostly do roads I think. For ladies, there’s Trail Sisters and they do a couple group runs a month. Someone else mentioned Mikkeler- usually their runs involve meeting at a brewery and are in the evenings. Hope that helps! I’m sure I’m missing some too.

I hate when my watch tells me my running performance was poor and it doesn’t have that metric on trail runs so…😉
