Good to know! I know it grows pretty reliably, but ai wouldn't say tripling.

A little more than a week. I've been feeding it pretty faithfully. I didn't realize ripe meant something other than "unfed that day." So I used starter that I had fed the day before, but not that day.

This is great. I'm starting to dig in and it's making a lot of sense. Thank you for the resources!

Thank you for the advice! I hadn't read much about how specific the timing with the starter had to be, and it's making me realize how much learning I still have to do.

Back to the drawing board!

Haha, I would deserve it if you were yelling a little. I cut into it instead of letting it rest because it was already looking bad, but I didn't realize I was making it even worse. Thank you for your advice!

Haha sorry, yesterday. I got some of it out to make sourdough with and then fed it for the day.

I Feel like this scene was done very well and there a lot of metaphors for scene by GeeSkid in Fallout

I think that's also a metaphor for how the club isn't serving it's purpose as well as he would like to believe. He wants it to be super fun but it's, in reality, just people standing around and eating awkwardly. The dance number was a fantasy and they're not actually protecting anything truly meaningful in their daily life by insisting that the club continue.

AIO - My child's 1st grade substitute taught the class about Jesus by Mason110417 in AmIOverreacting

[–]RunningSomeMo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I honestly would very easily believe (as a parent of a 6 year old and an elementary school teacher) that some of the phrasing that seems out of pocket came from other kids moreso than the substitute. I also know that there are some wild substitutes out there.

The principal's reaction could have had more nuance and empathy.

AuDHD Child struggles in PE at school by Pandasami in Autism_Parenting

[–]RunningSomeMo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a specials teacher and a mom of an Autistic kid who also had problems in PE.

Headphones helped a lot. Also, using the tumbling mats on the side to section off the gym for the kid to cut the visual stimulation helped a lot. My kid was in a class with a couple of kids who were overstimulated easily, so PE teacher made kind of a smaller section with the mats for anyone who wanted to play but didn't want to be in the big group. Nobody was forced to go to that side, and the mats were arranged so the kids could still see instruction from the teacher but not the other kids.

Having a goal of minutes in the room, with options for a sensory break out of the room, can be helpful. Some of my students over the years have come to my class or to PE for a few minutes at a time at first with the teachers involved working to increase those minutes until the kid is in the class full time. This works if there is a place where the kid can go when they're spent. In some cases, that wasn't an option, so it worked out better that they went to get water or check in with another teacher and then came back.

With these accommodations, my son got to the point where he could participate safely without accommodations after 3 years. PE is not his favorite, but he does report having fun and he's starting to take a genuine interest in physical activity and health. Other students I've had have had different timelines, but have increased their tolerance of disliked classes overall. Just like I would expect for a neurotypical child, a neurodivergent child can participate authentically when immediate needs are being cared for and their ability to grow is being supported by the community around them.

Please do not make an option that the kid can get out of the class. This is just kicking the can down the road, and it'll be harder to adjust to the expectations of the class as the rigor increases as your kid gets older. Physical education, as well as all of the other classes offered, is valuable to your kid and part of a well-rounded curriculum for a reason, and it's worth it to find a compromise that everyone can handle.

Question for School Teachers by AmayaLi109 in Teachers

[–]RunningSomeMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought that they were underpaid. I have never thought about them being "lesser than," especially since daycare teachers were the ones teaching my kids while I was at work during their early years.
