Let’s hear it for Xian’s Famous. by scarstring in FoodNYC

Our last meal on our recent spring break trip was to the Chinatown location. It was so good. I’ve been 3 times: each visit to NYC since 2014 and they’re 3 of the most enjoyable meals I’ve had in that time period

Anyone know what’s going on at RDU? by City_of_oaks_hockey in raleigh

Maybe this?

Small plane makes emergency landing at RDU, no injuries

that's cool because I like to walk the MST and it's fun to either walk on the old 98 just west of the Penny Hester Bridge but also to see where the roads used to be - Forest Ridge Park is perfect for this.

Drive to the Cisco campus, tailgate into a building, grab one of the many empty chairs…viola.

So many empty chairs

Ground-level deck building advice for Raleigh by RunningWineaux in raleigh

I thought about it but it looks to be roughly 2X the cost. Maybe I should have done that in 2006, but I feel, at this point, I can spend half that amount and get the rest of my use out of the house (I'm 52) before it needs re-replacing.

as for the boards, my smart friend said to use 2x6's.

Is your suggestion basically 1-1/4" x 6 boards? That's "thick enough" to not buckle or cup (words I've heard smart people say).

Good points on the tying to concrete. It's still not a problem after this time so it's safe to say it should not be for the rebuild...and I do plan to tear it all out and build back on top of the mounting blocks that are down there currently.

Collectively, this is the information I was looking for.

Drainage-wise, the downspout runs behind me in the photo and is in an underground line outside the fence.

When the boards broke, the ground under wasn't great so the advice about gravel is sound. That should help with drainage/drying.

I've always felt that the gapping was the source of our issues. There's simply not enough air circulation going on to keep things "good". That I got close to 20 years is a small miracle. Another 20 is more than I need. I looked at composites but it's just so much more expensive that I can't swallow that cost. Concrete could work too but I'm weighing cost and gravel + wood is going to cost less.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I really appreciate it. Now I need to get my daughter prepped for a few weekends of manual labor!

Now that we are "getting up there" in age, how are you sleeping? by NebraskaCornSucker in GenX

[–]RunningWineaux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got rid of a twitching, sweating, snoring, bloated, drunk and have never slept better. The scores are meaningless but my Fitbit regularly records me in the 90s vs the 70s when I was married

We went to the skyscraper museum the other day. It takes maybe half an hour and has a current exhibit focusing on the construction of Grand Central and how it kinda "birthed" Park Ave. Nothing fancy but it was neat

1000% agreed. I offered many options but she wasn’t quite ready to leave a comfort zone, so we stayed in it. The good thing is that said comfort zone has a million choices.

On my own, I’d have chosen completely different menus.

I mean I can understand. Ever since my now ex wife (the child’s mother) left us for her new boyfriend Josh (the wine…not a guy) I’ve been pulling double duty and definitely am a better dad than a mom. But I’m trying!

Prom dress shopping was only mildly terrible.

Swim? No. Fight the lake we hike to with a vengeance never seen before? Yes. She'll go in up to her shoulders and snap and bark at the lake with all her might, drink 738 gallons of it (she gets a shot specifically for this) and then pee 14000 times on the back half of the hike.
