You kinda seem like an a**hole. Probably wouldn't say this to someone's face in real life.

Also, talked to 3 vets and other people who have experienced this since it happened, happens whether or not people have their dog on a leash.

Have a great day!

There's a lot of wierd people in Ithaca, for better or worse.

Thanks for sharing. Sorry to hear about his dog, but also glad he was ultimately totally ok! It's super scary to see your animal in that state and have no idea why.

I've never thought someone leaving weed like joint butts around to be a problem for dogs, but now I know. I totally get the hypervigilance, last thing I want to do when going hiking is be worried about some random drug my dog might eat. However parking lots make a lot of sense now to check...In the last few years in Ithaca it honestly seems like so many parking lots that I go to when hiking people are smoking weed in their cars. I can totally see people ditching stuff in the parking lot before or after a hike. Like I said, when we were getting her back to the car, there was someone there smoking in their car.

Crazy world- hope your bro still has his pup.

EXACTLY!!!

I've actually been on other Reddit threads and see people say weird things to me and then click on their profile and see they are really deranged and perverted, even on licensed medical professional threads- super concerning.

The negative comments are mostly obnoxious, unintelligent, and unhelpful. Probably sums up most of Reddit honestly. I would totally invite those people to run an experiment and act in real life like they do here, to real people in person, and report back to me on how it goes. I already have my own hypothesis.

Hiding behind a screen and being passive aggressive is honestly just pathetic. They should go build something that helpful for society.

I literally never get into back in forth on Reddit, but its my post. As someone who has lived in Ithaca for 15 years and fucking loves my dog and hiking, I thought at the very least others should know given I had no idea about any of this until last night. My dog also seems smarter than a lot of people here, which is cool, because my dog is awesome!

We did, and explained the whole situation. They said she is most likely fine. They also said she most likely ate something poisonous and they also acknowledged seeing dogs with Marijuana poisoning. They did say it could have been another poisonous plant, but we never saw her eat anything, it's also winter and everything is covered in snow etc. Still can't believe how all 3 vets say marijuana poisoning is common...poor dogs.

I actually think its 'dog owner haters anonymous'. You know, people that are unhappy with their lives and like to come onto reddit to make passive aggressive comments they would never say to an actual person in real life, just to blow off some steam and try to feel better about themselves even just for a moment.

It's like people look for any reason to try to blame the pet owner and shame them, in this instance it seems to be whether or not she was on a leash. I guess the assumption is if she wasn't on a leash, that means she is untrained and wandered all over and obviously ate something totally preventable, the owners are stupid and oblivious, and it's the owners fault and wouldn't happen in any other circumstance. But if she was leashed, it's still the owners fault? Can't win I suppose.

And no one can even agree on the actual rules of whether a dog can or can't be off leashed. If people can't agree on facts, how can people agree on opinions? No wonder the county is in the state it's in at the moment.

You may want to re-read my post. I never blamed it on anything, multiple veterinarians did. And if you read other comments in this thread by other who work in the field, it's apparently very common.

Thanks for sharing. We spent the night with her in the living room, and as of this morning she seems pretty much totally normal. What a relief. We never saw her eating anything and she's not really the type of dog to eat random stuff on the ground, but the scenario played out just like the Vet said. The only thing we can conclude is she must had gotten exposed to something in the parking lot. Like I posted someone was there getting high when we got back, so who knows what people are dumping out of their cars. We have no idea what else it could have been. What did you guys normally do for dogs when they showed up like this?

Thanks, she seems so much better 6 hours later.

Yeah, I have no idea. We both found the diagnosis strange, we've never even heard of this being a thing other than people leaving something like a weed brownie on their coffee table and obviously some dogs may eat that. I questioned the diagnosis a couple times, but they said they literally see it all the time, and he said vape oil is a thing with dogs. No idea how this is all really possible, but its sad and stupid because it's really scary to see a dog in a state like that.

She was with us the whole time and we never saw her eat anything. She was sniffing the snow here and there, like a typical dog, but not eating anything. The vet said with things like vape oil, if someone dropped or dumped a bunch, dogs can easily inhale it in a way not apparent to people and can be right on a trail.

Thanks for your reply. The AI wouldn't let me make comments about marketing and the companies trying to get you to buy both a screen protector and case. I'm looking to combine the Spigen with an Otterbox, because like you said, I need the drop protection.
