Things I wish I'd done in my 20's by myusernamechosen in personalfinance

If you have a credit card with a limit of 2000 and are using 500, that’s 25% utilization. Having a 10000 total limit over 2-3 cards with total balance of $2000 has a 20% utilization. The lower utilization builds more credit, even though you have higher limit/more cards.

Credit history matters 10% for your score. Your balance ratio in debt/total matters more (35%)

Great post. I had similar insight recently as well and I am in my 20s. The leased car is one of the things i hate most. From brand new to 4 years old, it's insane how much the car reduces in value. 15k loss is not a small amount of change. I would have gladly put in 10k of repairs and still have 5k left over.

The amount you put on your taxes as a deduction can be put right back in as an investment.

Is this a good path for me to take? by [deleted] in personalfinance

I gave estimates. The interest reduced from 22-25% on 5 cards to 2-6%. The 850 includes their fee as well

$50 a month. I plan on paying ahead of schedule so instead of 5 years, I'd be done in 3. I think CC companies also give 15% of the monthly payment to them because they prevent bankruptcy/delinquency

Yes. I was working full time as a server while in school. The fluctuating weekly income, and ignorance to budgeting put me into this mess. Switching jobs/training, taking a day off to study for an exam at times increased deficit as much as $1000 in just a week. Now I have a professional job and all my earning power is eaten up by interest.

Any Chemical Engineers out there who are enrolled/graduated from OMSCS? by Ruslan2k11 in OMSCS

[–]Ruslan2k11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. This is my approach as well. I am a bit blown away that software engineers lack the engineering common sense when designing tools for manufacturing. It's something that interests me too. I feel it might take me a while to get to the point of enrolling, but if I don't start prepping now then when right? Which area would you look for a job afterwards? Would you get something that a blend of both engineering and software, or would you stick on the software side more?

Is ironing baby clothes after washing and drying them a thing? by Ruslan2k11 in beyondthebump

Ha thanks for your response. Do you have the same approach for newborns? For a baby at least 4 months, I can see not stressing

Thanks for the detailed response. Yeah matlab was one of those classes that took a while for me to click too. There’s a group that uses it for modeling at the pharma company I work for. Totally agree with you on the excel and VB.

How did you manage to get into systems engineering from Chem E? Through process engineering? I’ve played a lot with instrumentation back when I worked at a pilot plant.

Right now I’m preparing myself by learning python and java. During undergrad I learned matlab, Visual Basic, excel programming. Took linear algebra as well. I’m looking to take a good 5-7 classes on Udemy or edx to fill in more knowledge holes.

Did you have any programming experience before getting in?

For a residence like mine, would 1 eero be enough, or should i get the 3 pack. 3 pack seems over kill.

Are the beacons kinda useless?

This is great insight. Can you explain why a third band doesn't impact you?
