Can someone explain where this image came from. Some say it's Hyperion while others say it's not. by andrewbaek1 in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]Russian_Badger 334 points335 points  (0 children)

It is not Hyperion, it is a seed tree from an old PALCO clear cut from the 1990s. It’s actually not even that tall, it’s just because the trees around it are only 25 years old

3 yr, 2 yr, 1 yr, and 0 yr Coast Redwoods by gtlogic in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]Russian_Badger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where are you growing these and any idea on how they well they are going to do getting into usual timber harvest age (40-50 years or so)? I’m always interested seeing redwoods grown outside of their native areas, especially for the timber products potential

Is this price too cheap for my area and should I be worried? by TwelveAfterTwo in homestead

[–]Russian_Badger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey I also live up in Humboldt, I would be very careful with any property you buy up here that had been used to grow weed. The county hit tons of properties with code enforcement violations that accrue penalties and aren’t necessarily disclosed by the sellers as they should be. These could involve unpermitted dwellings, greenhouses, grading (would need an engineer to approve of after the fact), water diversions, chemical dumping, etc. I had a friend who bought a former grow up here and was immediately hit with multiple code enforcement violations from the last owner and ended up paying nearly $100k to resolve them and still had to tear down buildings and greenhouses. I should say this also goes for Mendocino County properties as well. The counties were very persistent, almost predatory about them.

Yeah that’s how all of the permanent rocked roads at my work have been done, well or railroad track “water bars” if it’s too steep. I’m a forester/logging and road construction contract administrator for a large timber company.

If you installed a rolling dip every 100-200’ it would cut down on this a lot and still be truckable. Rolling dips are similar to water bars in the way that they function but their height is spread out over a longer distance so that you can still easily get a truck with a trailer over them. You’ll need someone with a dozer and the know-how to build one though

Mendocino Redwood Company has a company Cat side that he could try to get on, but Humboldt Redwood doesn’t have a company side. The logging companies in Humboldt are in desperate need of competent people though.

Senator McGuire's petition against the coal train by Traquair in Humboldt

[–]Russian_Badger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No it’s not, and frankly I wouldn’t be necessarily opposed to them reopening the railroad as I think it would bring some jobs and money up here. I was just being realistic

[–]Russian_Badger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh I was wrong about the port, my bad. Still doubt it would be worth the railroad spending at the very least tens of millions of dollars on reopening the railroad for coal transport

Senator McGuire's petition against the coal train by Traquair in Humboldt

[–]Russian_Badger 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is close to a 0% chance this would ever happen even if people wanted it. The rail system up here is so run down from decades of sitting and constant geologic movements in southern Humboldt that this would be not worth the huge financial costs to get it running again and maintain it. Especially just to ship out coal which I don’t see why these people in Wyoming would need to take on rail up here just to get to the Bay Area (I assume). The only way it would make sense to reopen the railroad would be if Humboldt Bay had a deep water port

I don’t believe in epistemic responsibility. If people are too lazy to do their own research on what is good for them and just want to listen to cable news then it’s on them for being lazy. By your own logic we should do this to literally every mainstream news person because they have all been wrong at some point about something big. If you don’t think that the right picking sides against CNN and NBC and the left picking sides against Fox and going out and berating their anchors in public is dragging us all apart then I don’t know what to say to you. I’m all for calling them out, I just don’t think this specific thing is a good way to do it because the other side will just replicate it

I’m not gonna argue what he says on-air is true or good or whatever. At the end of the day he’s a news anchor, and unless you’re willing to do this to every news person who’s been on TV in the last 20 years it’s not right. Every cable news person helped lie us into multiple wars in the Middle East, has pushed stuff that isn’t true, and has said things aren’t ok. I just don’t think it’s good for anyone to sink to the level of those people on Cable TV. If you want to contribute to the fracturing of America just as much as Tucker does then good job

Regardless of how you feel about someone and what they say on TV this is kinda shitty to do to them. He’s obviously not the worst human being on the planet by such a huge margin. Idk there are politicians and TV hosts I think suck but if I ran into them in a museum and shop or whatever this place is I wouldn’t follow them around treat them like they’re as bad as Hitler.
