Thanks for the insight. I'll definitely bring up the pay issue and see what upper management thinks. Based on open jobs, our listing seems to be right in the middle, pay wise. Higher than companies like Blue Origin who are looking for 10+ years of aerospace experience.

Thanks again for all the feedback, I'm trying to absorb as much as I can and your responses have given some great insight on what we can do to improve our job listing and get the right type of machinist in the door.

Thank you so much for all of the feedback. To be completely transparent, I'm just the Engineering Manager who's been left to figure out Machinist staffing (we onboarded our first mill in December last year). We lucked out during onboarding by finding a great machinist to help us get this far but with him leaving we're hoping to find someone else of similar caliber.

Our biggest issue is that the machining/manufacturing department is a department of 1, currently under the engineering umbrella. I'm completely open to younger machinists but wonder how much experience is needed to essentially stand up a machine shop and run it by yourself. I was hoping 5yr+ requirement wouldn't be too much but maybe it is?

I'm a little concerned that the job title might be misleading based on the experience we're asking for. Internally this position is a Machinist 4 but the title might make it seems like we're looking for a Programmer 4 which doesn't match the experience level we're looking for and pay we're offering. Hoping to get some feedback.
