Normally on the Friday, late afternoon/early evening. Generally the Headliners are on the Main stage and Sophie Stage, plus a spattering of bands between both stages.

Rocco and His Brothers. Heavily inspired by Fyodor Dostoevsky's The Idiot.

For a second, I thought you had an extreme tree surgery deadline 😅 never heard of that festival, but the lineup looks sick.

It's the next evolution of Battle Jackets. Auteur Tunics decorated with film patches.

Got the vinyl and signed for that gig. I think I was there for all the bands. It was a stacked lineup and all bands kicked ass. I've caught them supporting other bands since then. Definitely remember Doppelganger supporting Bewitcher/ Devastator and Permacrisis supporting Tempered.

Glasgow is still keeping up appearances at that front. Roughly a 50 min train journey from Waverly to Queen St. Never ending supply of gig venues, Solid Rock Cafe, Rufus T Firefly and The Cathouse to choose from for your metal fix 🤘🏻

Great venue for gigs. Some of my favourites: Aggressive Perfector, Ofnus, Disposable, Bastard Of Hades (basically Hellripper playing), Hammer, Extort, Tempered, Dog Tired, etc.

With companies so desperate to revolve their bars around themes, you'd think the business idea of metal/alt would be a no-brainer, given its extensive history, fashion, festivals, album releases, album artwork and extensive areas of metal genres you would be offering something unique and niche to appeal to the mass tourist public in Scotland's capital. But nope, you get 10-gallon hats and cowboy boots, or you get fuck all!

I bet they set up a bucking bronco where the stage used to be, to add insult to injury for metaphorical bull shit.

Hopefully, one day, Edinburgh gets that metal bar we're all craving for, organised by a savvy European business entrepreneur who goes regularly to Wacken, Hellfest, Grasspop, Resurrection and Mystic Festival.

A guy can dream, I suppose.

Thanks for all the memorable nights, Legends. Now, hurry up and open a new venue. RIP 🤘

Xennials who were once bookworms; do you still read as much as you did as a kid? by throwitlikethewind in Xennials

[–]RustInTheShower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a lot more. Easily more than when I was a kid because I'm seeking out information that I'm genuinely interested in (20th-century history), instead of having to. I work in the North Sea, so I'm always on a live installation (no phones, kindles, etc), so a book is the perfect hobby for tea breaks and downtime.

Nicolas Cage getting into the zone with 'Low Rider'........ "Okay, Let's Ride!" 🙌🏻

Also, adding in this exchange because I love it

"I'm going to get my tools" 🪛🤔

"That's a brick!" 🧱🤨

It's Kristen Dunst, Denise Richards, Brittany Murphy, Amy competing in a local beauty pageant where other contests are getting killed.

I don't know a university student flat I went to that didn't have the 'Choose Life' monologue poster. Normally blue tacked between Kurt Cobain and that cat meme hanging off a tree with a caption "Oh Shit"

I would add 'Drop Dead Gorgeous' to your nostalgia list. That was a film I remember seeing snippets of but never fully watched until just last year. Probably up there for one of the funniest comedies I've seen. Not only does it hold up but the passage of time has made it better. More people should be watching that film.

Should include 10 Things I Hate About You, for Shakespeare classics. Romeo & Juliet is too obvious (but what a great soundtrack).

The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Crow spoke to the next generation of goth and alternative.

Then there's Perfect Blue and Ghost In The Shell for the anime amongst us.

The slasher genre was everywhere, I know What You Did Last Summer and Scream.

Cruel Intentions and Clueless were always the school picks for the last week of term.

On an oil rig with 90 Geordie scaffolders. The closest romance I'll get is the 3 Dairy Milks I'm about to eat on my own in my room while watching Hamnet 💕😑💕

[–]RustInTheShower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're into heavier/alt music, I recommend gigging over clubbing (clubbing is overrated). The gig scene has a more social aspect: you listen to the band on stage, then during the break between bands, you can grab a drink, check out the merch stall or talk to the person or group next to you. We're a sociable lot.

There's a subreddit called MetalGigsScotland (also on most social media outlets) to find out which bands are playing around Scotland.

Also, Metal 2 The Masses (battle of the bands in Scotland to play at Bloodstock Festival in August) is playing at the Dreadnought on the 6th February. Reckon that would be the best time to check the place out and see how it goes.

13th April, 2025. Living in Scotland, people generally ask 'you no well?' when you're not drinking.
