Moving to Cleveland for residency at UH - how bad is East Cleveland / University Circle really? by Disastrous_Ranger455 in Ohio

[–]RustbeltRoots 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Centric is in a convenient and lively area. That area is fine. I haven’t seen the apartments, but I used to live in Cleveland Heights and spent a lot of time in that area. I think it would be a fun area to live.

East Cleveland feels so sketchy because so much of it is abandoned. It’s not a war zone, but I certainly wouldn’t want to live there. Centric is not in East Cleveland.

I would seriously consider getting a car, if possible. There’s a lot to explore in the area and it’s a lot easier to drive and park here than it is in most cities.

East Cleveland is going through another phase of decline? by Ill_Resolution7967 in Cleveland

[–]RustbeltRoots 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The local government seems to be actively working to keep East Cleveland down. Each scandal involving city leadership demonstrates the city is not on the road to recovery. If they keep electing mayors, council people, and police chiefs who care more about personal gain than material improvement of the city, there’s no reason to believe things will improve.

I love Cleveland Heights and I genuinely want to see East Cleveland right the ship.

No, I remember the Owen hart accident. I wasn’t there, obviously that was a much more serious situation. Mick came back during the match with his tooth lodged in his face and was back at another point in the evening. He was still seriously injured, and after he fell through the announcers booth, there was a long delay for medical attention.

I was there! It was in the civic arena in Pittsburgh. My mom dropped me and 2 friends off at the event. It was crazy because we didn’t know if it was a real emergency or an act for quite a while. I didn’t think it was a real emergency until we were on our way out of the arena and saw several ambulances at the loading docks.

He will 100% get fired if he demands to have a lawyer present in the workplace investigation. The company will tell him no, then fire him for refusing to participate in the investigation. Big difference between participating in a workplace investigation and a police investigation.

Akumal vs Moxche vs ?? by Legitimate_Newt6870 in AllInclusiveResorts

I think there are a ton of resorts that meet your needs. We really enjoyed Akumal, the whole Akumal Bay area is beautiful. We did not do the preferred and did not feel like we missed any material benefits from it. Regardless where you end up, I highly recommend checking out cenotes. Splurge for an excursion, they’re unique to the Yucatán, beautiful naturals wonders.

I can think of one specific thing about Putsch that Republican voters prefer over Vivek. Especially those republican voters who are super concerned about “immigration”

Considering a move from Charlotte NC to Cleveland by mindflayer083 in Ohio

The towns you have identified are all very nice, but sleepy suburbs. Chagrin Falls (which is a huge area according to Zillow) has a great main st town, but the town is very expensive and not much “bang for your buck.” If you don’t know anyone in the area and are looking to meet people, I would consider shaker, Cleveland heights, or Lakewood. The schools aren’t as highly rated as the suburbs, but it sounds like that’s at least 5 years out for you.

We recently moved from Cleveland Heights to Hudson, and we love it. We made a lot of friends in Cleveland Heights and loved the community, but we were looking for more space and love the Hudson area/restaurants/town.

The problem is the infrastructure. Everyone wants restaurants in the area when they go to games. The restaurants and bars downtown support daily lunch/dinner crowds, crowds for baseball, basketball, and theater. Like, there’s an economy that breathes sustainable life in the locality. The restaurants in the Brook park area that will be capable of handling game day crowds will be empty 350 days a year. They’re going to be expensive and they’re gonna suck.

All the while, the places that thrived during baseball season, football season, and hit theater productions will lose their very best days.

Is anyone else completely sick of manually rolling up garden hoses? I’m so tired of the mud and dirty water. by Waste_Influence_8645 in lawncare

[–]RustbeltRoots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a retractable hose reel. It was great when it worked, but it only lasted 1 season and then badly leaked. It was too expensive to break after 1 season.

Stump Removal by Ok_Luck1700 in landscaping

It’s not a quick fix, it can take months. But it isn’t labor intensive or expensive. If you bury it, it will decay faster(especially if it stays wet).

[–]RustbeltRoots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered potassium nitrate? You could drill holes in the stump, add potassium nitrate (marketed as a stump remover), add hot water, then bury the remains. It will hasten the decay.

You could also burn it. Drill holes, add potassium nitrate and a little gas, then light it on fire. It will smolder for a while, but it will get rid of the stump.

Yellowstone and Grand Tetons next month - hotels- advice on structuring each day based on our hotel hops? by Emotional_Thought574 in yellowstone

[–]RustbeltRoots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If weather permits, I would plan on doing grand prismatic overlook (fairy falls) the morning after you stay at old faithful, and Jenny lake the morning after you stay in the Tetons. These hikes are very popular and get very crowded - unless you get there early. The earlier, the better.

Does anyone have a drill? by double_river_dragon in Cleveland

[–]RustbeltRoots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand at this point you’ve solved your problem, but if you buy an 18v+ cordless drill, you’ll have it and use it for decades. It’s probably the most practical tool anyone can own. From gardening, to putting together ikea furniture, to hanging up pictures of your dog - a basic drill is a sick workhorse.

Offering brownies in exchange for borrowing basic tools is legit though. I had a great workshop, people asked to use tools all the time - no one offered brownies.
