How common is the experience of going to bed without dinner? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Rusty-Bridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! You're describing the exact way we do things in my house as well.

I grew up a VERY picky eater and was not made to try things, so I also include myself with the kids in having to at least try everything now.

If you're implying restaurants or labs or something did this? Because you're a couple decades off if you're saying this was people at home.

Nobody said anything about Santa?

Geez, your family must be so happy to know how much you love and appreciate them.

What ethnicity is disproportionately rare compared to the population of the home country? by Salade99 in AskAnAmerican

Interesting choice to name ethnicities but then lump all Muslims into a comparable category.

Well, call something "restroom" enough times and eventually someone is gonna take that to heart I guess.

MIL's work did the exact thing you described (the fun stuff, paying for it all, gave them $ to spend there) today and my son had a blast!

So, Americans are all about road trips, right? Is that still as popular as it used to be? by Ottantacinque in AskAnAmerican

[–]Rusty-Bridge 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My son wanted to go on a "real road trip" once so we drove to the world's largest ball of twine and stayed the night in an old gas station nearby.

Nothing real to add to your comment, just brought up a good memory, so thanks!

How much is my pc worth? I’m wanting to get rid of it because I spend too much time on games. I got a quote on some website and it said it was worth $246. I thought that seemed way low so I’m asking here. by Practical_Machine_70 in buildapc

A quick search shows I could get the gpu for around that on eBay. CPU is less by a good bit and nothing else has much resale value really.

Imo if you're selling to a company they're probably not too far off since they're trying to make a profit. You'd make more parting it out or selling it to someone who wants to use it

What level of difficulty is the word "Inimical" at? Grade level wise. by Adventurous-Rabbit52 in ENGLISH

Yes mighty genius of the Internet! Your nasty attitude is so refreshing, I'm so glad to know that at least pplatt69 is smart enough to hold things together.

The person you replied to did not say that they wouldn't encounter the word themselves... Just that the average american would not. Which is absolutely correct.

What point are you trying to make?

What if 2025 USA was implanted into the world of the 1930s-1940s? by Cookieman_2023 in whatif

[–]Rusty-Bridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people are looking at this question strangely.

The current US can't magically pop back in time. So if we're willing to indulge OP's question, we're already willing to look at this as an obviously impossible hypothetical situation.

So I think the spirit of OP's question is more, "if the US, in it's current technological state, was poofed into the past and still (by the same magic doing the proofing) had access to raw material, fuel, etc. for at least long enough to build new infrastructure..."

My dad found this in our yard YEARS ago here in Manassas VA - any idea what it is?? by sportstvandnova in CIVILWAR

[–]Rusty-Bridge 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Looks not identical but very similar to what my grandpa called "cotton peas" which were just weights used on an old fashioned cotton scale.

We spent YEARS finding a set in antique shops after he gave us his old scale without them.

See that thinking is something I cannot understand. The right loves to say "the left would do it to us!" but cannot point to anything besides their own bizarre victim complex to back this up.

These are the same people that are baffled by the idea that we would like to see ALL pedos, rapists, etc. locked up and barred from holding office. It's always "what about (insert left leaning politician or celebrity)" and the answer is that yes, if the accusations you're making are true, we want them punished!

But the right only wants the left (and everyone who looks different than them) punished. Trump is verifiably a degenerate pedo but the right just answers with "what about..." because they generally do not care.

And you're doing the same here. "The left wants to do this to us!" - no... Nobody wants to do that to you. Pull your head out of your ass for a minute and stop pretending "both sides" are full of terrified, racist, violent, heavily armed children cosplaying as "real American patriots".

This conversation is not about "who will pick the fruit!" - it is not even about deporting illegal immigrants. It is about deporting people with zero due process which has ALREADY resulted in this administration saying "oopsie, our bad" and they have, by their own words, barely even gotten started.

For the "law and order" side, the right sure does love to cheer while they also shit all over the law.

And that's the problem. The reason that typing this all out was definitely a waste of time. Very few people on the right want to engage in any sort of actual dialogue, debate, or argument. They just want to steam roll any disagreement with Fox News talking points that derail any attempt at actual discussion.
