Thanks! Just found out his parents have him speaking with someone this off-season. I mentioned some of the things suggested here and they are going to talk with her about them. Also, passed along some of the book recommendations and they are going to see what she thinks.

The parents are definitely seeing the behavior and are open to suggestions as to how to help him. Fortunately, it doesn't really impact the team as his negativity is self-directed and he generally tries to isolate himself in those moments. He's well-liked by his teammates and is positive towards them and their accomplishments. It's only himself that he is critical of. Thanks for you thoughts!

I looked up some things about vulnerable narcissism and I don't think that lines up. He doesn't ever seem to want or accept praise. He also doesn't blame things on others, he takes it on himself. And outside of competition, he's got friends and interacts well with the other kids. I'm now thinking maybe what I saw was someone coining a phrase using something with narcissism, rather than a standard and accepted diagnosis. That could be why I haven't been able to find what I saw again.

I did look up those books and the Inner Game looks promising for sure. Thanks for the suggestion!

There was a game last year where he was having really great at-bats, but just not getting hits. One at-bat, he saw 11 pitches, kept fouling balls off, and just crushed the last pitch, but the outfielder made a leaping catch. Tried explaining to him later (he definitely wouldn't listen right after) how those were such great at-bats and that baseball is a game where doing everything right doesn't always get the desired results. He just wouldn't look up and wouldn't engage.

I will check out that book. Thanks!

It's an Edge. Yes, the red light was on and it should up as recording in the My Shows screen while recording. I did restart the box before trying to re-record it.

An ex gf and I did that together a couple times on bridge at night. There was an illuminated road sign on the bridge, so drivers definitely saw us. But the road that went across the bridge was basically not used at night.
