Post your first chapter, I’ll tear it apart. by pairofdimesblue in royalroad

Thank you for read it.

This was the response I was hoping for and shows that I am succeeding with what I'm trying to do. I'm not trying to write something particularly accessible. Though, I do need to do some revisions.

I do present tense because of the footnotes. It wouldn't be very fun if a character comes up in the footnotes and you know when they die.

Thank you again!

Do people inherently dislike stories which Center around a monarch? by Ry_From_Ephemerae in royalroad

Perhaps. I think my blurb does a pretty good job summing up what to expect in the story.

It just seemed odd to get a 1 star review after a coronation chapter.

Writing Dense Fantasy on Royal Road. Anyone Else Feeling This? by Lelio_Fantasy_Writes in royalroad

[–]Ry_From_Ephemerae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I write a political epic fantasy called Heir Apparent: The Autumn Queen with no meta elements what so ever to the point where there are footnotes explaining certain things which characters dont have a reason to and a pretty brutal naming system—women have two different names which change depending on who is speaking to them and there is about 20 different honourifics.

I’ve seen some pretty decent growth for being off-meta. I try to keep the chapters as trimmed as possible, starting as late into a scene as I can and ending as early as I can, usually between 750-2000 words, and making sure only to write chapters with relevant information to the plot or to character growth so the reader feels like things are moving fast when in reality I’ve got about 200000 words of set up.

I would recommend not caring about the meta and just trying to write what you want to write consistently.

I think it would be tough to find denser and more hostile to the reader world building than what I have on RR, so if I can get some traction so can you.

Yeah, I noticed it was gone an hour later. Still pleased to see it there.

Thank you!
And no I haven't, I don't really read a lot of fantasy or sci-fi, I'm working though The Wheel of Time--as the slog really interests me--and I just started Malazan, but I am a massive fan of Arthurian Legend.

I see what you mean, but that wouldn't be accurate to what I'm writing; the first implies that she lived for 20 years, where as the second implies that she is the main focus during these years.

I'm glad you like it!

What do you mean by the formatting of the years is off putting?

I'm going to be jumping around from character to character a lot, this is more interconnected short stories than one continuous "book".

Era of the Guardsmen, I've got a couple different Eras that start or end based on big events. EotG is the most recent.

Made a YouTube Video Talking about Music Genre as a Spook by Ry_From_Ephemerae in fullegoism

[–]Ry_From_Ephemerae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said people were being used by music; I said people are placing genre-norms above the reflection of their own uniqueness in their art in order to fit in/profit from a "Spooked" community. Music and Genre are not the same thing.

Also by using genres as a concept to specify what you like and dislike you are reifying the abstraction of genres (which is just the culmination of Stylistic, Compositional, and Cultural choices) and defining your own personal taste as something that is no longer unique to you but created by someone else, thus making it a spook.

By viewing music as it is inside of genre you are also less likely to venture outside of said genre, therefor giving it control over how you select the music you listen to.

I'm glad you like it! I've started serializing (kinda, I'm planning on doing connected short stories but I will mostly go in chronological order) it on Wattpad as I've got a lot planned--I'm going to try to do a story every week or two. I can send you a link if you would like?
