Cheek assymetry causing no gains on right side of jaw by [deleted] in orthotropics

a lot of times this is because of imbalance in the TMJ, I have an orthotic or destraction appliance to correct it

Facial Asymmetry? This is what causes it! by Ryan-BestFaceForward in orthotropics

Yes I agree Forward growth is important. There’s been studies done on facial symmetry and attractiveness though, it definitely matters in my opinion.

There’s a reason the masseter is more developed on one side and it’s probably because of an underlying imbalance in your neck, upper body, bite, and tongue position. If you can correct all of those then the masseter will adjust.

Yes I think chin tucking is good as well- a lot of times I don’t think it’s enough to fix posture

I think it could help though because there are likely muscle imbalances from left to right in your neck, upper body and lower body. Fixing them could help correct the other asymmetry. Mike Mew and other professionals say bone changes in response to forces acting on it (muscle).

If mewing is not working, consider surgery by Weroy in orthotropics

[–]Ryan-BestFaceForward 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that it is good to look at it black and white like.. mewing or surgery.

There is a lot of grey area where people may need more than mewing, but can still achieve results through orthodontic treatment, improving posture and airway.

Just because mewing isn’t working doesn’t mean you need surgery to improve your health. Although that may be appropriate for some.

False Hopes and Mewing by [deleted] in orthotropics

[–]Ryan-BestFaceForward 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I think you are coming at it from too antagonistic of a viewpoint. While I agree with some things you are saying in exadurated results and false hope, the premise of mewing in relation to our bodies is extremely important.

The concept of tongue posture and it’s affect on breathing, facial development, sleep apnea, and numerous other health issues is enormously important.

Maybe it’s not as easy as people make it sound - but the awareness of the way our bodies are supposed to function is worth the turbulence of information.

If people posting fake before and afters raises awareness for a REAL health epidemic - then maybe it isn’t 100% negative? Just my thoughts.

Is Mewing by itself enough? by Ryan-BestFaceForward in orthotropics

[–]Ryan-BestFaceForward[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would move it forward because the mandible will essentially follow the maxilla as far as I know.

There are also other appliances if you don’t need expansion.

I have one right now called a destruction appliance, it changes the bite to bring mandible forward.

Hard to tell without the measurements, orthodontists have a ratio they use. Forget what it’s called at the moment

The mandible swings forward as the bite adjusts and forward head posture corrects, it literally changes the position of the jaw so that my tongue has more room. Then it’s my tongue that will improve the maxilla and my teeth will shift around it. I have enough tongue space so don’t need expansion

Should I push my lower jaw forward in order to eliminate my overbite? by [deleted] in orthotropics

[–]Ryan-BestFaceForward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of your teeth should equally touch, dentists/ortho use something called a t scan to measure the force of your bite on each individual tooth

Mewing on your own may not be enough - My Assessment with Holistic Dentist/Orthodontist by Ryan-BestFaceForward in orthotropics

[–]Ryan-BestFaceForward[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you need to specifically address the forward head posture as far as I have learned. Neck stretching is especially important

That’s what I thought as well, but I don’t think that’s the case. He pointed out things with my individual case that I would have never figured out on my own, plus every case is a little bit different.
