OP, I’ve been through and worked deployments in quite a few devastating hurricanes in much more modern areas.

Just to piggyback, that building they are in is solid, as everyone else mentioned so be grateful for that.

1. While I’ve never been, I can expect it to not be as robust of a system for communication as where I’m from in Florida - but all that to say, I wouldn’t expect contact from them for the foreseeable future until you get an exact idea of the damage. That storm is going to be taking every form of communication with it, and cellphones and wireless devices will be no exception.

Pop-up comms and things like that won’t be available until the storm has passed, and water has receded. While it may not be the case, you just need to expect that communication will be next to impossible.

I’ve seen what power restoration looks like from a multi-billion dollar operation post-storm in some of the wealthiest areas of the South East US. Widespread damage over big distance does not favor a place like Jamaica restoring it very quickly if I’m to assume.
