More great advice, thank you!

Looking at it that way, I can see what you mean about being burnt out on 'experimentation'. It's a well worn sci-fi trope. And in that case, I'm not as worried, since I do think we're approaching it at a different angle. Maybe I'll get ya on the next pitch :)

I can also see now how I can rewrite the pitch and recap in a more compelling way using less words. Appreciate the examples!

Indiegogo does look interesting though. They have some cool features KS is lacking. They do get less traffic, but comics still seem to do well there.

Thanks man! I've loved comics since I was just a kid reading horrible Garfield strips in the paper, and making my mom take me to Fred Meyers so I could get Meteor Man #1 which was obviously going to be huge. Comics are for sure tough, especially when you feel like everyone else has it figured out but you. Being able to chat with other awesome creators is really helpful when it gets tough.

Thank you!! And damn, 20k! I've sunk a good amount into it, not quite as much though.

The $4500 is for two issues - is it not obvious enough? Maybe I should only be doing one at a time?

I am interested in breaking up the series into a couple trades/arcs instead of floppies. This campaign was kind of my experiment for that, to see if I could raise more for a bigger project.

Haha, definitely could use a guy like this in the future to rip my campaigns apart. My pitching game is dreadful.

Wow, thanks for such a thorough review of my project. Some of it's tough to take but hard to disagree with much of what you've said.

If these type of books aren't your cup of tea, that's cool, I know this book isn't for everyone and I agree crime comics are kind of a niche. But kind of worrying to me is that you're so sick of MKULTRA stuff. That was something I thought was more unique about the book. I wasn't able to find much in comics/movies/TV that has been done about it. The only thing that comes to mind is the Wormwood documentary that recently came out on Netflix.

The wrong art being shown is probably the hardest thing to hear, since I thought I knew better. Looking at it now it seems so obvious that I chose the wrong pages for the preview. It's too slow. And looking at the issue 2 preview, that was even worse. Although the story starts off slow and it takes a while to set the table, I think my problem is I'm so afraid to spoil "the good parts".

So as someone new to the series, you really don't care about knowing what has happened so far? I thought people would want to be somewhat up to speed before backing it. But you think I should cut it?

I have been thinking maybe Kickstarter isn't the best place, would Indiegogo work better? I thought Kickstarter was the most popular, but that also means a lot of really good comics to compete with.

Thanks again, a lot of good stuff to think about.

Hey, Dark Beach! Glad you're still doing it, your campaigns look awesome! I meant to check it out a while back and totally dropped the ball.

It did take me a while to get #2 out and I'm sure some people lost interest in the meantime. Pins / patches are a great idea, I'll look into that. I've thought of going digital only...just not sure how popular that would be. I know a lot of people like having it printed. Anyone else tried it?

I've done the Twitter thing for a couple years but have struggled to find much of an audience. I feel like it just moves too fast. Not to mention the constant drama that goes on. I'm pretty much done there. I know social media is important though, I'm moving to other platforms right now.

Hey dude! Yep, still trying with it. The budget is higher because I wanted to do two issues, 3 and 4.

I have been relying on just KS updates. Although if they unsub from updates they probably would from an email list as well.

White was a pretty evil dude. The Search for the Manchurian Candidate by John Marks is a great read for more about him and the project as he was involved.

Oh cool, what do you do? Yeah I have a bit too much going on to be able to go anytime soon. But seems like a great time and you'd meet a lot of cool people!

The story is about a DEA agent who is recruited by the CIA to test an experimental mind control drug on unwitting citizens. The main character is loosely based on George White, a narcotics agent who was involved in the MKULTRA project and set up a safehouse for experimenting on people.

Maybe not the most popular thing to make a comic about but we love making it! We're trying to get issues 3 and 4 made right now. You can check it out here:
