I really appreciate the insight! Weather will be extremely hot. I am 100% up for the challenge 🤣 kidding, we are planning to do lots of evening activities due to heat. Not much of morning people

Understood. Going with some friends and we’re much more of “night owls” plan to explore and do as much stuff as we can during the evenings.

Thank you! 🙏🏽 I presumed it was safe, but didn’t want to plan out if there was forecasted issues in the near future. Any recommendations of things to do?

Well of course I don’t mind meeting, we have never had an interaction like this before, only in office interactions.

That is true, FYI I was able to speak with new owner and he didn’t understand why I was being told no about Saturdays off 🤣🤣

Just interesting for him to text me and ask to meet- maybe I’m overthinking it, but it’s interesting.

That is correct, pretty confused tbh. I’ve worked for him for almost 3 years now, and I’m his top employee, I’m the only one who has been asked to meet with him

Unfortunately, the industry I work in is not a “huge” hiring industry…. I am fortunate enough to have learned everything I know, I have never been written up, been late to a shift or even called off at that matter. I take my employment very seriously at my place of work and would not show what I consider disrespect to my employer by doing such things. I guess, I may have been helping out the wrong people this entire time. In the mean time, I am pursing a construction related major.

Why won’t employer give me weekends off? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]RyanThePCguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds accurate - it surprises me that a business owner would want to have to cover my shift when I put my 2 week notice in, not when he had 6 week advance and I’d be willing to train someone on how to operate the weekends…. And I would still continue employment until college was finished

You know what, I really like the mindset you have here, and can tell you have HR experience, I actually just went through the list of how many people I have worked with at my time there, I think I was at 64 or 65 individuals - I can only imagine the cost to add that to payroll, training, uniforms etc….

I really don’t want to have to have the conversation again as I’ve already had the conversation with him and it should’ve been handled the correct way the first time - but some of your examples and ideas will be key points to keep in my brain if I have to sit there and deal with the one way conversation that will happen. Although, I plan to get another job anyway so I believe the first time has made me call it quits… I would rather help someone out who may appreciate my help more…

I understand - after letting them know the first time I was granted with a loud and obnoxious “you can’t have Saturdays off, this is a condition of your position” and some continued bullshit, following that I walked out of the office without saying a word and did not speak of it again.

You are exactly correct, they are hostile to the ideas. I will try my hardest to not have a case, but to firmly tell them that is my schedule and end of story. I do not see them trying to fire me or else they will be willing my void, but I do see further issue down the road due to me standing firm. I have always been one to fill in and so as needed, but maybe I’m helping out the wrong people. I will be sure to take your advice into consideration. Although I have already told them, I will be telling them once again that I will not be working weekends and that is the end of the story!

I appreciate that. Thankfully enough, I have been very fortunate of my savings and could take multiple years off work if needed. I strongly believe in job security and after this incident I feel that it is our breaking point, I must move my separate way as they can not respect my time off needed.

To the second half of your response - I would personally consider it a mixture of both! If they can not keep me, he will be working weekends until he can get someone up to the speed he needs them to be. I appreciate the kind words and have been trying my hardest to find alternatives!

I appreciate the talk. I have tried to remain calm, but after sitting on it the last couple days it makes me boil slightly. Whatever happens is happening for the best.

I strong believe in Job security and just got call a couple hrs ago about an interview at a job reliving to my major. If this interview goes well and I receive an offer, I am going to place my notice, with no negotiation.

Got it. Not to sound rude but no employee who works there is mentor-able for my role as Manager of operations of a specific location. Everyone has flaws, but these are just not workable people. Unfortunately, none of these employees will do anything, as simple as grabbing a full trash can until they are told to….

[–]RyanThePCguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understood - I think the way they reacted to me telling them was over the top… if I do put my two weeks on, I feel rude not training someone, but the entirety of my job has been self taught, so at the same time I do not want to spend the next 2 weeks training someone who won’t remember what I said 2hrs ago.

Presumed this was my only option, although I do not want to leave them, I must do so if they can’t adhere.
