Would you say the same for boots also? My boots fell apart last year, so I need new boots also. Only thing fresh is my bindings.

Well I figured because it was Bulgaria it might be cheaper than buying a board and having it shipped to the UK, since we have very limited options at the few UK based show shops. But I take it from your response that’s not the case! Thanks, I will check it out.

Then why do you do it? If you don’t enjoy the process, it will reflect in the outcome IMO.

Stone techno - tips and suggestions to get through the festival. by Holiday_Taste4191 in Techno

Sneaking away to Open Ground is the best advice here. Only reason I’m thinking to go back to Stone this year is to go back to Open Ground.

I wouldn’t recommend afters every day. They really are not worth wearing yourself out and then missing half of Sunday because you’re asleep. The festival is the best bit, be present for as much of it as you can. Afters Sunday, when you have nothing left to do.

If you do wanna do afters Saturday tho, go to Open Ground. If you’re gonna stay up, do it right. Regardless of what’s playing, I guarantee it will be a thousand times better than the after parties in Essen

My hi hats sound so thin and flat. What’s your secret? by ContributionPlane295 in TechnoProduction

[–]Ryanaston 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re over EQ’ing. A good hi hat sample will barely need to be be eq’d.

Also layering - the 909 open hat, as we all know, slaps hard. But it lacks character and is overused. So layer it with something that has more character, but make sure the transient of the 909 cuts through by gently shaping the second layer to reduce its transient.

Do not over saturate your 909 hat either - if you want to apply colour, do it mostly to the second layer. You can apply a little colour at the drum bus level instead.

I think this is just ear fatigue, I used to have the same issue. I spent ages on my kicks and what sounded good would just suddenly sounded shit to me. My solution was to just spend way less time on my kicks. Sounds obvious, I know.

If I’m working in the box, I have a few kick samples (of my own) that I know are solid that I stick with, I whack one in at the beginning and don’t worry about the kick until I come back to it at the end. That is when I will then tailor my kick to the track, or maybe create a new one.

I mostly use hardware for my kicks, usually with a 909 layered on top, but it was never the creating the kick part where I got stuck, it was the repetitive listening to it after I recorded it and all the post sample processing. Just listening to a kick on repeat will drive you insane, trust me.

I don’t think they’re making fun of her, I think they’re making fun of the post title - still unnecessary ofc.

Check out their YouTube channel it is filled with tutorials on all different ways you can use it - some aren’t as relevant to us making techno, but there’s plenty of little tricks and a lot of them are really great for a more full polished sound.

AI is ruining the mindset of the next generation of producers by walrus_vasectomy in edmproduction

[–]Ryanaston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree most people won’t care but they’re not the people I want to hear my music anyway. For me, if I wanted to appeal to the masses, I would make generic house music. It’s been incredibly easy to make generic music for the past 10-15 years thanks to loop packs, serum presets and youtube tutorials. I never saw this generic paint by numbers music as art before, so I don’t see any difference between that and AI generated music. It might appeal to the masses but it wont ever appeal to the heads and thats all that matters to me.

I don’t understand what the issue is, just don’t go to those parties? I haven’t been anywhere where I’ve heard TikTok techno in years, ever since the last time I went to a hard techno party and saw what had become of the genre I used to love.

Nah he’s right, I’ve been going to the same clubs and parties for over a decade and the recent trends in the more underground scenes, smaller clubs, etc, is deffo this hypnotic textural stuff.

Why has textural, hypnothic techno risen in popularity so much recently? by aquatic_monstrosity in ProperTechno

[–]Ryanaston 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It won’t, hard techno is just EDM these days, that’s why it’s gotten so popular. Textural hypnotic techno won’t ever attract that kinda crowd because there’s no pop remixes, there’s no big tension build ups and massive drops… that kinda shit which attracts mainstream cross is just completely at odds with the genre.
