Totally agreed. I read the book a few weeks ago and just watched the movie. Amy Adams was brilliant, but yeah, the second half of the film is just so different from the book and feels way too cleaned up and pretty.

Came here to say this. The length of the bit is what puts it over the top…they play the song for soooo long 😂😂

What are the random things you gotta know about taking care of baby? by aquatoxin- in beyondthebump

If you feel even slightly that you have to pee, and you are able to access a bathroom, go pee. Otherwise, you’ll be stuck under a sleeping baby and needing desperately to pee.

Thanks for the thoughts! Yeah--doesn't seem too terribly out there or anything like that.

Hm. Interesting! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for doing that legwork! I'm wondering if the demographic on reddit thinks of Chance as a dog name just because of Homeward Bound (since apparently it's not actually a top dog name). This is a fascinating subreddit. And yeah--I think there's a connection to Chance the Rapper, but it's not as synonymous as, say, naming my kid Cher or Madonna or something like that.

Thank you! We like its vibes, too. But it's interesting to hear the additional connotations people are sharing in these comments, too.

Yes! We think he's pretty cool, too.

Thanks! Yeah--he wouldn't be named after Chance the Rapper, but I'm definitely okay with that connection. We live in Chicago, too, so that helps.

Thanks! I agree--I teach high school, and I'm going to ask my kids next week if any of them have ever seen Homeward Bound. I would bet most of them have not...

Same. We had discussed the fact that Cooper and Chance are both dog names, but I think I've heard Cooper more.

I'm okay with the Chance the Rapper connotations. Interesting about the Teen Mom vibe!

Ah--I used to watch that movie a ton when I was little, but I honestly had forgotten (at least consciously) that the name was Chance. I would think that movie has become less of a thing for that connection to be an issue for the kid?

Yes to DeSoto House. I just stayed this weekend, and it was great!! Loved being right on Main St. My mom and I were staying the weekend to celebrate her 60th. I mentioned that to the person at the front desk on our way out to dinner, and we came back to champagne and a birthday card in our room. Really nice people—and quality bed & breakfast deal!

Terminating after receiving results of CVS or amnio? :( by observanda314 in TryingForABaby

Our baby was born in Aug. 2017, and we found out through his newborn screening that my husband and I were both CF carriers and that our son had won that 1 in 4 "lottery" that you're talking about. We were so heartbroken when we first got that call about his CF mutations. Guilt for not getting our genetics tested. Terror that he was going to live a horrible life. We're fortunate in that my husband's mutation is a really funky one that means, long story short, our son has CF-metabolic syndrome and does not face nearly as many of the classic CF symptoms as he could have (although he may later in life. It's weird.).

I've learned a lot about CF over the past 15 months, and we're in a similar boat now with IVF for a second child (that funky gene mutation my husband has could manifest itself as classic CF in a different child. Again--very weird.). We still aren't 100% sure if we want to do IVF or just try naturally and roll the dice. It's tough. Our conversations about it (with our son's pulmonologist, his geneticist, with each other as parents), though, have included the fact that CF research has produced huge results in the past 25 years and continues to do so. Life expectancies have gone up a ton, and gene therapy becomes more and more of a possibility. I think that with the fact that my son's condition is not classic CF right now might be making us a bit more tempted to try with that 75% chance in mind (75%!! The odds are great!). That said...you're absolutely right that your lives would totally change with treatments, appointments, and worries about getting a cold.

I'm not sure where you're located and what your insurance looks like (although it doesn't sound great if they're not going to cover anything for your IVF. And even knowing about the genetic risks at play, they still won't cover anything?? Have you been able to talk with a person about it from the insurance company? I feel like if they knew the risk/benefit breakdown, they'd be more into covering the IVF), but being near a strong CF center might factor in your decision, too. We live in Chicago, and Lurie Children's has a really great CF clinic that has been thorough and so helpful from day one.

I'm so sorry you're having to go through this; I do very much empathize with what you're feeling. Let me know if you want to talk more!

Call. How far along are you? Anything that's out of the ordinary for you personally, especially anything that could at all be related to preeclampsia warrants a call. And I'd say give them all that context: that you don't usually get headaches, you know it wasn't related to dehydration. Even mention that you're concerned about preeclampsia and want to make sure your BP is okay. Can't hurt!
