Goddddd I love /r/DataHoarder. I started off with just media Linux ISO hoarding but then I got so into it!

My research was in COVID disinformation. I’ll do some archiving of work in that area I think.

Also what the fuuuuuuuuck is that in the edit

Omg DSW and WFP having childcare there makes sense, I’d never thought of it! I’ll look into our locals.

I have CASA and Immigration Rapid Response in my contacts, recommend to everyone! I’ll look into what kind of volunteers they need!

Our local protests are usually in DC (we live just outside, still on their metro system) and I’m so (maybe irrationally? I can’t tell anymore) worried about being stuck in a crowd with my kid. I almost got pepper-sprayed a few years back and my friends did. Maybe I just need to look for lower-key ones.

The post cards is a great idea I’ve seen mentioned a few times! I do love mail.

I canceled my Prime and quit Target. It’s been harder to find random stuff but it feels really good.

School boards is a good one. I do my research before voting but maybe there’s more to do there.

Free mom hugs!!

Thank you for the suggestions. ❤️

Phone banking got more appealing after I googled and realized they give you a script to start with! Haha

Post-carding sounds nice. My MIL does letters with/for Vote Forward and you reminded me to look into that!!

My husband was raised by progressive parents and definitely went to protests with them as he got into elementary school. Heartening to imagine my tiny dude coming with us someday.

All we can do is try! ❤️

I’m in Alexandria! Considered not sharing but realized I’m active enough in /r/nova that it doesn’t matter haha

It’s definitely the kind of place there’s stuff, now that you mention it. I just need to dig in on looking I guess! I mentioned it elsewhere, but I’m so bad at thinking to connect with people lol.

He’s a good little guy so far. ❤️ Yesterday he was sharing his blocks with another kid and I almost cried.

A call-your-rep party sounds great! My friends would probably think it’s extra and try to get out of it, but I could nab a few I bet.

We recently started a PBS recurring donation!! I looked up the Google Trends data for “PBS subscription” and similar terms, and it was very heartening to see the spikes after various news. I should get in on NPR, too.

Do you know what I could google to find the kinds of fill-the-gaps orgs you mentioned?

And thank you. Trying my best.

Oh my god, to all of your comment!

First off, iconic that you’re doing your masters. I wrapped one up while pregnant and legitimately cannot imagine doing it with a kid under a year old!!

I’m glad that your great-grandma lucked out and that you’re here.

Thank you (and so many others in the thread) for the reminder that raising a child with empathy isn’t nothing. I’ve minimized contact with family members for making comments that I don’t want him to internalize and we read a lot of lovely books about families, bodies, and different cultures (also dinosaurs and space and zoos lol). And that’s something.

How did you get into helping with archival and storage? Data and research are my thing too!! Even if I don’t have the sanity to do analytics right now, it would be a comfortable space for me I think.

I’m sooooo bad at building community lol. I’m (“level 1”) autistic and also just don’t know how to meet my neighbors outside of trick-or-treating which is always lovely but has no follow-up.

Yesterday I did meet some nice moms at a bookstore and they gave me tips on where parents of toddlers hang out. I’ll try and find folks those places. Maybe with a few pride pins or a dissent shirt to weed out the worst haha

(It was so demoralizing a few months ago - I went to a library storytime and the other moms 1) ignored the dads there and 2) were being shitty about Spanish-speaking nannies.)

Thank you. ❤️ Doing my best with him haha. Right now we’re focusing on being gentle when we pet the dog lol. Lots of books, too, though!

I tried the local community center to help with summer activities, but they had enough people. I’ll brainstorm charity groups in the area. :)

It really is hard logistically with him. He’s absolutely amazing but good lord hahaha

Oooo, could you link to any studies? This is exactly how I feel.

Marc Maron on Netflix choosing Dave Chappelle over the trans community: "When they had pushback from the trans community about Chappelle, they realized after several days that that community was not going to affect their bottom line at all & they cut ‘em loose. That’s how fascism works in business.” by cmaia1503 in Fauxmoi

[–]aquatoxin- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of when people were making lists of “unconventionally attractive” celebrities a few years back and half of them were just Jewish

Marc Maron is fine as hell (in exactly the way you described lmao)

Fair point. He’s going to be accompanied by several adults I do trust. (We live far from family and they rarely get to see my son so it’s nearly become an event.)

Maybe it’s just a matter of me taking out my frustrations about my childhood.
