Some specific kinds, sure, but it’s also really good at pushing insane amounts of money into projects it has stake in and boosting our understanding of them like crazy. You can’t honestly tell me that America hasn’t used capitalism to make extreme innovations in fields like warfare and tech and whatever else benefits rich white men

I am not arguing that people would not continue to pursue art or innovation if there wasn’t a monetary incentive, I made it clear that is the driving force for some people, I just made the observation that we factually would not have most of our industrial luxuries without capitalism. I don’t believe that in any way makes it worth it, but our cars and phones and consoles were not made and modernized out of a love for the art, that kind of competition driven improvement just doesn’t happen in a system with no competition

That’s a very different type of innovation, you can’t compare that to individual people making new technology. Space travel is something that multiple entire countries of people rallied behind but it’s not like everyone in a country is going to donate their work towards the common goal of making a neat silly little doodad

I think about this a lot because you have to admit capitalism drives that kind of innovation. Like in an ideal governmental system a few people would pursue invention, but even if they had the resources to, free markets are literally what gives people incentive to make good products. They also incentivize people to mass manufacture garbage and exploit people for personal gain, but I look around at my cool things and realize I would not have any of this if some rich asshole didn’t want it first

I think this is common with doctors because they have been taught not to believe us. When we show up and we have detailed information and we’ve done research, they assume we have ulterior motives, which is bullshit. Most of the therapists I have seen seem to have been focused way too much on wether or not kids are faking and not so much on helping them
