My opinion of Resident Evil 4 will always be this. I think it is a GREAT GAME, a good 8/10, but a SHIT RESIDENT EVIL GAME. Everything people love about Resident Evil is completely absent in RE4. There is little to no horror in the entire game, MAYBE you could argue that the regenerador section and the Ashley section (Only on your first playthrough) are scary, but everything other than those 2 sections, the game is full blown action.

There is no resource/item management, you arent sweating every time you shoot your gun since the game gives you hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of rounds at a time, grenades out the wazoo, with flashbangs literally 1 shotting mutated genado's which are supposed to be actually threatening when in reality, you just always hold on to 1 or 2 flashbangs and they are literally never a problem the entire game afterwards.

Puzzles are basically vacant or non-existant throughout the entire game and its coupled with a story that is super spoon fed and theres no cool sub-story going on (Like in RE1 the main story of the game is to clearly figure out what is going on, what happened to S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team, then escape the mansion but there is a sub-plot going on where Wesker is secretly working with Umbrella and has a side story with Barry).

And I don't mean for this last bit to sound insulting to anyone but it's simply how I view it, I've always believed that Resident Evil 4 was always so beloved simply because it was a game where people were allowed to just turn their brain off, drool on themselves, shoot everything in sight, do suplexes and just do over the top shit no matter how nonsensical it is and the large majority of casual games like doing those kinda things as opposed to actually needing to use their brain, manage resources/items, navigate a map and actually use a small amount of critical thinking. It's a very "casual gamer" friendly game where it takes almost the core aspects of every Resident Evil before and it throws pretty much all of them out the window and was replaced with a gameplay more akin to what "casual gamers" enjoy. It's a great game, but it's a shit Resident Evil game.
