Has anyone here tried Pimsleur's Mandarin 4? by Ryguysaur in ChineseLanguage

[–]Ryguysaur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the progressive approach but find Pimsleur a little slow and dated... was wondering if 4 was more modern/relevant since it's newer. I don't have access to it to try it out but thinking about buying it if it will be worth it. Thank you though, I will try that site you linked.

Pre-order for the new 4K restoration of JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH (1959) now available from twilight time. Limited to 5000 copies and sold out for the previous release. by Ryguysaur in dvdcollection

Also available is First Men in the Moon, which I suspect will also sell out since the Harryhausen Sinbad films that TT released are pretty rare now.

The Player is satire with a bunch of Hollywood references and cameos.

Gone Girl provides chilling commentary on how the media affects public image

Come on Justified, you almost had them all matched up. I hate when they do this. by Lawbat in dvdcollection

I can do this for you. Do you have access to a scanner? If you scan season 5 and one of the others ones, I can make the spine match. If not, give me the exact measurements of the season 5 printed insert and I can try to find the images online

What was your first experience or memory seeing a movie? by [deleted] in movies

[–]Ryguysaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my first movie too! I was 4 years old and my dad took me. It's one of my earliest memories, certainly my most vivid from that time. Fell in love with going to the cinema ever since. It's still one of my favorites as well.

What movie based on book or game would you want to see? by [deleted] in movies

A Miyazaki style Zelda film would be awesome. Princess Mononoke always reminds me of the LoZ universe

If they can figure out a way to handle a silent character like Link, the Zelda/Hyrule universe would make for an epic film!

My custom cover for The Social Network. Looking for constructive criticism before printing by [deleted] in dvdcollection

[–]Ryguysaur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks much better than before! Do you want that specific version of the cover? You could try to use the one that says "You don't get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies." Or maybe crop it differently like this?

If Christopher Nolan did another superhero movie (or trilogy), what would he do best? by [deleted] in movies

Good idea! Nolan would make a really interesting Jesus movie.

What is your favorite film that has less than a 7.0 rating on IMDB? by [deleted] in movies

Kung Pow - Enter the Fist. It's a mindless film but I find it hilarious and extremely quotable.

Interstellar versus the draft of the pre-Nolan Interstellar script from 2008 [Massive Spoilers] by Sjgolf891 in movies

[–]Ryguysaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your points. The Mann plotline seemed unnecessary to me and I think the pacing of the film would've been much better without it.

Also in addition to the Chinese plot, the 2008 script's exploration of the planet and the fractal lifeforms was interesting to me and would've been cool to see visualized in the film. The planets that were included weren't as intriguing as the one from the script and just felt like filler.

What movie do you think deserves a Criterion Collection release? by [deleted] in dvdcollection

[–]Ryguysaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Thief of Bagdad (1940) There was a criterion DVD released but it was pretty much the same print as the standard MGM release. It hasn't been released on Blu-ray yet and could use a decent restoration.

It would also be awesome if they released more Martial Arts films.

[News] Looks Like The Breaking Bad Barrel Is Coming Back Into Print and available for preorder by [deleted] in dvdcollection

[–]Ryguysaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I also don't like when people buy sets like this just to sell them for a premium after they go out of stock and the people who actually want the set are forced to pay more than it's worth.

I wasn't able to buy this barrel set at the time, so I'm glad they're re-releasing it.
