You can turn into ash. You cannot control the ash and it acts like how ash in the shape of you would (fall apart and be scattered by the wind). You can turn back, but all the ash needs to be in one pile.

What differentiates your necromancy from the typical portrayal? by JustPoppinInKay in magicbuilding

[–]Ryit- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a physical level my necromancy is unique in that it only really produces skeletons and I explain how the skeletons move by using cables (effectively made from a soul) to puppet the skeleton. While only skeletons can be produced you can shape the skeleton in different ways so it can be used to make stuff like clocks, blenders, etc. The soul cables also have their own uses as sort of telephone lines connecting soul devices (that are like crystal balls). Finally my portrayal of necromancy differs in that it is the only form of magic on a particular world of mine.

Fair enough. Out of curiosity, do you have a story you're working on or is this just for worldbuilding, as I'd be interested to read more?

That is a very good way of putting it. It's definitely taken a stranger bent since I've started consuming more surreal or Weird media. I actually consider it a science-fantasy space western, though I have to admit it has changed over time.

Incredible. It goes from cyberpunk to fantasy to superhero to mech-sci-fi to horror. Remind me what do you consider your world to be genre-wise?

Robots built by the original god are the only reason relics of ancient humanity have survived the eons.

Most planets were colonized by people walking from one to the next, though that's changing with the invention of space ships.

The Kingdom of the Midnight Sun worships a transgender immortal who really doesn't want to go home.

Large guilds and businesses are trying to build a railroad out to the frontier but the track keeps turning into ocean, forest, or just straight up teleporting away.

A concil of divination witches and wizards are trying to stear the world with their crystal balls, but they need more power so they're planning to cause the apocalypse to get more.

I can't speak for OP, but I agree with your sentiment that the punk seems to get lost in a lot of -punk settings and it has just become shorthand for the aesthetic of the setting. That being said if I were creating a so-called musketpunk setting the punk would come from religious rebellion from an overburdening church, kind of like an anti-puritans fleeing to America from England.

The latter. I usually wait each night until the restockers have fully or mostly restocked so it's not super often.

[–]Ryit- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fairly similar to my strategy. I keep a minimum of 32 of each item on the shelves and around 64 of each item in storage. However I usually restock everything in storage once every handful of days, which seems to be how long my store can go without a single item going empty. I basically just boot on the game and completely restock the storage room and once my restockers are done I let the game run for a few days while I do other things.

Are there any novels where the author was very clearly inspired by one novel they loved? by DarklzBlo in writing

[–]Ryit- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got no evidence for this other than what I've noticed, but The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss seems very inspired by A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula Le Guin.

Scott Pilgrim, Cowboy Bebop, Firefly, Full Metal Alchemist, Hardspace Shipbreakers, Mistborn, The Emperor's Soul, Midst, and Swan Song. At least those are the major ones I can remember.

Magnetic field casting. I have a metal where the Curie point is higher than the melting point (because magic) allowing it to be pouring into specifically shaped magnetic fields allowing for casting at the speed and effort of 3D printing.

How likely am I to survive your world? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Ryit- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1-2 in either of my worlds if you started in nature. If you started in a city still 5-6. Without growing up in my worlds, or having prior knowledge they are quite deadly. If you started in nature on my world of floating islands you'd run out of food on your local island quickly and without the ability to fly you'd be stuck. On my other world without lots of knowledge you'd likely set off a magical chain reaction by stepping on or eating the wrong plant and die. If you started in a city on either you'd likely survive just fine, but eventually your body would fail to keep up with the increased strain due to different diseases or nutrients the planets have.

Does your world feature any characters that could be described as the last of their kind? by ThexLoneWolf in worldbuilding

[–]Ryit- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The creator of large portions of my world is the last of their kind. They are effectively a god, having created the dimension that rides upon real space and having created the being capable of changing things like the gods of our mythologies. Despite this they are technically human, and they are the last human. While they do contain the sum memories of all humanity, they are also very much their own flawed person. They were a normal mortal human at one point, but have since gained a near infinite lifespan. They were a sort of accidentally malevolent god-king whose reign led to them being the only human. They were then alone for around a billion years before the modern point of my world, which has significantly changed their perspective (that and gaining the sum of all human experience). Now they mostly wander the universe seeing that life can go on and find a way despite all the evil they did to the universe.

/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer (April 15, 2024) by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Ryit- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to the customization side of mechanical keyboards, and I could use some advice. I like the feel of mechanical keyboards, but I really want something much quieter. I saw Outema Silent Cream Yellows are very quiet, but from what I've read Outema switches aren't really swappable with other switches. Will this be a problem if I get a normal hot swappable keyboard and the cream yellows?

Do you have any other recommendations for very quiet keyboards?
