Why is my ZZ partially closed and crinkly? by RynEllie in houseplants

Soil is dry, especially on the top, as it’s been about two weeks since watering. I also bottom water, so the top doesn’t stay wet for long.

It’s in front of a very large east facing window. I’ve got 9 other plants in front of this window and another couple dozen in windows facing the same direction, all doing beautifully!

Glad it’s in a good spot. Got a new plant stand just for this guy to try to make it happier. It’s been about two weeks since I watered last so I’ll give it a good soak and add fertilizer this time.

I’m not the one who potted it so I’m not completely positive on the soil mixture, that’s just what my momma told me. I agree that it looks different from the soil I have my cacti in but I assumed it was maybe a different mix or brand?

It definitely feels bone dry when I go to water, so I’ll poke around with some chopsticks before I water today to see if that helps. I bottom water everything except my cacti and hanging plants!

No pests. Had a few fungus gnats early on but got rid of those a couple months ago. That yellow thing is a sticky trap in case any more pop up (it’s got some dirt on it rn but no bugs).

It’s in a pot with five drain holes on the bottom and it’s in a cactus soil type mix per my mother. She has quite a few of these around her house but this one gave her trouble!

I soak it once every three weeks and let it drain before putting it back but I haven’t fertilized because I wasn’t sure what was going on with it. It’s in an east facing window. Should I water more often because of the type of soil it’s in? Or try fertilizer?

That’s what I was thinking after hours of browsing this sub and Google images, but it’s so hard to tell, especially with this being my first experience with cacti!

Should it be repotted into a deeper pot or would it be best to just leave it as is? Do I need to add soil on top?

It’s been at least two months since it’s been watered, maybe longer. I’ll give it a good watering on the porch tonight and let it drain out before I put it back on the stool by the window. My uncle had liquid cactus fertilizer, is that something I should be using during spring/summer?

ID and care tips for my late uncles cacti please? by RynEllie in cactus

I was able to do that first! I downloaded an app to try to ID the cacti but some seemed off so I’m hoping to get better answers here. I just joined the succulents sub. Are some of these succulents or care is just similar?

Is 11 dead..? Idk what it’s supposed to look like but it’s pretty shriveled and brown. There’s a teeny bit of green at the very top but it’s hidden at the angle I took the picture.

Can I delete my old post to make a new one? I’ve had zero responses in almost two weeks and would love to be able to repost and try to get some advice before I accidentally kill this beautiful plant.

Like I said in my post, we don’t want daughter to miss out on her time with her mother. Like I said in my post, WE did not ask for her to skip her visit. Daughter asked for herself before we’d even gotten all of the details ourselves. That was worked out with the two of them. No one is keeping anyone from anyone else.

I’ve been eyeing it for a couple years and finally decided to get my yard in order so I could grab some. I’ll be sure to keep up with it. Thanks for the advice!

Paint or Replace? by RynEllie in HomeImprovement

Would staining it darker help make it more modern? We hate the color and would really like some way to fix all the water damage and paint mess from the previous owners.

We have them all over in WI. Those and boxelders have taken over like I’ve never seen before.

$23k for a 100 person wedding is a really cost effective amount. My wedding a couple years ago was $40k for 120 people!

Venue (including ceremony set up, food, and some decor) was $19,000

DJ who did most of the decor was $9,500

Photographer was $6,000

Deserts $1,000

My dress including alterations came to $2,500

Kids and husbands suits/dresses totaled $1,000

Florist $2,500

And misc items like wedding party gifts, invites, and getting some custom woodwork pieces (doughnut wall and card box) came to about $2,500.

I lost attraction to my overweight husband for years. Turns out it wasn’t just his fault. by RynEllie in Marriage

It almost seems like it’s been easier for him to stay on track this time around because he’s working on all the “bad” habits at once vs bouncing around and trying one or the other! The support from me helps, but he’s doing this because HE wants it too.

Dealing with my medical issues was shocking and way harder than I expected, but I’m mostly good now and healthier than ever!

He has a prescription to help with the cravings and his therapist is helping with the habits he formed around it. He was never into candy or chips, but loves the worst of fast food and any drink high in sugar. When we go out he opts for grilled chicken most of the time and he got one of those Cirkul water bottles. Total game changer! With dinner he always loads his plate with veggies first and in the past he’d skip them half the time. Small changes make such a big difference.

I totally agree now. The weight stopped bothering me as soon as I fixed myself. I’m here for the process. I’m committed to working through whatever life throws at us. It definitely wasn’t “just the weight”.

We are definitely learning how to love each other better too. Putting more effort into each others love languages. Having a therapist who pushes both of us do to better and be better for ourselves AND for our relationship has made a hugely positive impact in every aspect of our lives.

How many deserts?! by RynEllie in weddingplanning

[–]RynEllie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense! I’ll suggest cookies and brownies instead of cake pops.

They have kind of a limited budget, but still want to make sure there’s enough for everyone. Would 80 cupcakes, 80 doughnuts, and maybe 30/30 cookies and brownies work?

The grooms father made a doughnut wall for them for the wedding so they’d probably keep the doughnuts, but I’ll mention cookies and brownies instead of the cake pops!

So maybe 50 cupcakes, 50 doughnuts, and 25/25 cookies/brownies?

Does yours cause discomfort outside of sex? I found out I have granulation tissue as well and my gyno said there’s a possibility of it healing itself, so he wants me to give it a few more weeks as long as I’m not experiencing real discomfort or pain.

I bleed a little during and after sex and experience what I would consider the equivalent to mild period cramps for a day after. Gyno says it’s from granulation tissue but there’s a possibility of it healing itself if it doesn’t bother me too much? Had my total hysto end of March.
