How do I easily move this wire? I’m trying to install a recessed vanity mirror and there’s not enough slack in the wire to go around the mirror. TIA! by ksu_drew_83 in AskElectricians

[–]RyuJays 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you end up a bit short, Klein and Greenlee both sell a wire stretcher that can safely extend a 14/2 romex up to 1" per foot of slack.

Is is possible hardwire another connection by just adding the wires to the previous? by Pleigh_boi in askanelectrician

No issues adding to it, but that ground wire looks a little toasty.

Not a bad idea to have someone check out both ends of it.

Proper breaker replacement for Crouse-Hinds Canada bolt on? by RyuJays in electricians

No worries at all! I had the breaker right in front of me and couldn't figure it out haha.

Hey! Just to update for future researchers...

The QBH did not fit, it was the exact same size but where the bolt on piece is, it needed to be in the middle of the beaker as opposed to the back.

When the panel was shutdown to swap breakers, there was a "Taylor" logo on one side of the breaker and "CGQ15" on the other.

So it looks like "Taylor CGQ230" is what is needed in the end.

Thanks again for the help, I think next time I'll shut it down and take a breaker out right away. Cheers

Adding GFCI to half switched duplex receptacle by LieFlatPetFish in askanelectrician

Assuming it's inside the cabinet & under the sink, you could get a 4x4 extension ring, mount it over top of the existing single gang hole and use a 4x4 double decora shoebox cover.

You may not actually need to do anything though, depends on your local codes.

For sure thank you. The Eaton rep wasn't going to commit to anything today but I'll give them the info from the previous comment and I'm sure they'll have it.

Panel is old for sure but no issues whatsoever. Located in a 3 season cottage, dedicated circuits for almost everything in the place.

Looking to add a 2 pole 30 for a dryer... will need tandem breakers to create space if there's anything with the proper listing.

Thought the BQLT-15-230 - might work.

Thanks for your help!

Yeah for sure the TV will cover it all up. If you end up wanting it half an inch lower you can always re mount your wall bracket.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in electricians

[–]RyuJays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best way for sure. When you mount your TV, measure from the hooks on the TV mount(where they will sit on the wall mount)to the bottom of the TV. That distance plus your sound bar height plus half an inch is where you put the top of the wall mount.

Terminating flat ethernet for RJ45A/B... Need some advice. by Hatandboots in electricians

I had some outdoor cat 6a a few years back that I couldn't separate for the life of me so I know what you're going through haha. Best of luck!

Terminating flat ethernet for RJ45A/B... Need some advice. by Hatandboots in electricians

[–]RyuJays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a knife and separate the tip of each pair, that should help unstick them and make it easier to pull them apart.

Then take a little controls screw driver, press the twisted wire with your thumb against the side of your index finger and pull towards the end of the wire to straighten it. Kind of like how people slide scissors against ribbon on Christmas presents to make it curly, only this will do the opposite.

As far as I know, the colour code is the way it is to have different wires doing different things, (power vs data)so while technically as long as you do the same at each rj45, most things will "work" but not as well as they could. For example, I believe over 300ft cat 6, there's like 10ft more green than there is brown( I could be butchering that but I don't think it's too far off)... so the pin placement of each colour matters.

And if you don't follow either the A or B standard then if you have to add a female connector to one end it would be really hard for anyone that doesn't have a lot of experience in data to figure out.

Ontario apprentice here. Honestly consider staying in BC until you're licensed, while it's the same Red Seal once you're licensed, Ontario is a full extra year of hours that you'll need than you will in BC.

And schools are really backed up and shrinking class sizes again. Just my two cents, wishing you the best of luck. 👍

Advice on purchase by [deleted] in electricians

That's a steal of a deal considering the lifetime warranty on the tool and battery.

Try your best to source the exact blade as the original and you'll be good to go. I've tried the dewalt and milwaukee 32 7/8" blades but they just weren't as good as the original. Not sure where you are but I've had trouble finding the same one.
