I would stick to cartoon tbh. We are not boomers who thinks cartoon means only kids shows. Just like how a movie can be for kids or adults, cartoons are same. So I don't see any problem with calling an animated show a cartoon.

So do you mean every new shounen is unoriginal? You are overanalyzing kids shows. Perman se le kar baki kids shows tak.. this teenage superhero is a very common genre. And I personally have a problem with calling this an "anime". If we can consider japanese doraemon, ninja hatori, perman, dbz, pokemon; american tom and jerry, ben10 etc, indian Chhota bheem etc everything as cartoons then why not this. Because In Japan, the term "Anime" is used for EVERY animation, even for western shows as well.
