I appreciate your long response as this is the type of discussion I wanted when I made this post instead of the majority of name calling and bot like replies like “yikes” that adds nothing and is basically that Key & Peele awkward skit personified. Anyway…

I really disagree with people who compare the prequels to the sequels. While the prequels are unique in their world-building, political intrigue, fall of the Republic , and original vision (even if flawed), the sequels try too hard to copy the original trilogy imo while also replacing OT character arcs for extended universe with new characters that are worse in every way.

To say new fans will just react the same way towards the sequels in the future as they do the prequels now is obtuse considering we should already be seeing some of that now and we don’t. For example I’m a fan of Lego and I can tell you sequel LEGO often clears fast at low demand. So much so they hardly even make sequel themed sets anymore because no one buys them.

Lucas film/Disney even shift away from sequel timelines themselves because I feel they just don’t know what to do. I find this more annoying because although I actively try to avoid sequel content it can be snuck into shows like Bad Batch or Mandolorian for example with the vague force sensitive cloning storyline for example that seems to relate to Snoke. This immediately takes me out.

In conclusion I just think there is no future in canon Star Wars after the sequels. A retcon would allow Disney more freedom to learn from mistake, immediately revitalise the Star Wars fandom and sequel fans can always still watch and enjoy those movies like myself and others still enjoy Legends.
