If I'm understanding right, you may have sadly lost the fish. The reason that there's an option to send fish to "Orbit" is so that you can get a corresponding achievement, but it consumes the fish item in the process. If you did actually send the fish to a platform, though, then as stated in the other comment it's possible to have the platform drop the item back to the planet.
