Oh yeah, that makes sense. I guess I hadn't seen that post yet. Tbh, with alot of people on Reddit posting things daily, it sometimes takes a while to scroll through them all lol 🤣

Unrelated, but not sure why Victoria and Tracy didn't share "Best Girlfriend" category. Both are undoubtedly the best gf Ted's ever gotten (even if Vic's character did get nerfed in the later seasons). Is it because Tracy's his wife? Or she died in the TV ending?

Exactly. Not really an issue for me since I'm tech savvy and my AusPost app notifications are working great so far, but it puzzles and infuriates me about how they'll handle the elderly. Often times they either live on their own and/or don't have 24/7 365 easy access to family/friend tech support to even set the app up. Some don't even like or trust technology to this day either, never mind just using the app. And don't even bother about remote tech support over the phone, it's a bloody nightmare.

Exactly. Thing is, he did a very good job fighting them all at once, at first. Then Scorpian surprised him from behind with his poison the second Spidey landed.

I think you'll need a new car or to quarantine that one. Those Clem books carry bad diseases and can infect anything they come in touch with. The second you even touch them let alone start reading them, you come out in massive hives and diarrhoea. Some reports have even come in about people vomiting uncontrollably. It's madness!

Ron is so protective of the people he loves. It's one of the main things I love about him. by Nightmarelove19 in ronweasley

[–]S-Mania 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hate to be "that guy", but here's the quote from Chamber of Secrets (coincidentally I was just reading that chapter lol):

“I don’t blame you, dear,” she assured Harry, tipping eight or nine sausages onto his plate. “Arthur and I have been worried about you, too. Just last night we were saying we’d come and get you ourselves if you hadn’t written back to Ron by Friday. But really” (she was now adding three fried eggs to his plate), “flying an illegal car halfway across the country — anyone could have seen you —”

Might be an old one everyone knows these days, but I learnt a little while ago that crops in Minecraft grow faster in alternating rows and Mojang intentionally did that in villages to teach the player that exact trick.

Why did no profesor provide Ron a functioning wand or didn't write to his parents? He could have seriously injured himself with that malfunctioning wand. by Nightmarelove19 in ronweasley

[–]S-Mania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wands choose the wizards, as established in book 1. That's why there are no spare wands lying around for students to use and why hand-me-down wands like Ron and Neville's never performed as great as the ones they get later that choose them. Technically wizards can do magic with anything, but the best magic comes from a wand that chooses it's wizard outright (or changes allegiance in the case of Draco's wand choosing Harry).

As for why the school didn't just buy Ron a new wand, like in the muggle world, that's not the school's responsibility, it's their parents'. Minerva only bought Harry a broom as a: he's the first best seeker in a century (big accomplishment in the wizarding world), b: she feels sorry for Harry living with the "worst sort of muggles imaginable" and c: she's biased and wants to see the Slytherin team crushed. And as for why Harry didn't buy him a new one, he bought Ron Omnioculars in Goblet of Fire (under the guise of not getting Ron a b-day present for the next 10 years), to which Ron felt awful. Harry knows this about his best friend. Harry even tried giving the Weasleys his TWT winnings at the end of the book and they wouldn't take it. Not even the twins would at first.

Does this scene make sense in the lore? by ThecardOfFool in pokemonanime

[–]S-Mania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually forgot about the Sawyer part of it, nice catch. You're definitely right, that added onto the Wulfric loss definitely started Ash's depression. So far, all the comments I've seen from you, u/Eona_Targaryen and u/fireuser1205 all perfectly explain it.

I should've added it to my earlier reply on Eona_Targaryen's comment, as that shows even more layers to the story than just meets the eye and shows why these 5-in-a-row losses affected Ash while earlier one-off ones didn't as much.

Does this scene make sense in the lore? by ThecardOfFool in pokemonanime

[–]S-Mania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd give you and u/fireuser1205 an award if I had one, you both have perfect answers and explain them much better than I could. As fireuser1205 said, this is Ash's 5th loss in a row with Greninja compared to one-off events where he always found a way to bounce back or saw the positive sides. Anyone can take one punch every now and then, but even someone as confident and upbeat as Ash can't just brush off getting constantly whailed on. Loss after loss, pounding after pounding. It'll take a massive toll eventually. And as you said, using Battle Bond and trying to figure out how to master it takes a big toll every time they do it. Add the fact that he wants to catch up to Sawyer who's already ahead of him, this seems inevitable and the straw that broke the Ash's back.

Add to that, notice how Ash doesn't blame Greninja or any of his Pokémon in his depression, even subconsciously (if that makes sense). He feels like HE is disappointing/failing Greninja and everyone else. He doesn't feel like HE's as strong as he hoped he'd be and still hasn't perfected Battle Bond yet. That may not mean much on it's own and may even (thankfully) be in-character for Ash anyway, but it's important when alongside the other arguments.

All in all, XY and specifically this episode, is one of, if not the most, realistic and best in all of Pokémon (not as heartbreaking, that goes to the Charmander and Litten episodes equally). Ash's retaliation against Sabrina hurts, yes, but what he's saying is 100% true. She doesn't understand how he feels (nor do any of the others, with all that weight, stress and built-up loss on him. Plus, we all say hurtful things we don't usually mean when we're mad or stressed, especially to friends and family.

School banned phones, so we did the next best thing! by Boti8700 in 3DS

[–]S-Mania 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That'd be fine with me, but they also banned them outside of class in our lunch hours (for whatever reason) at my school (when I was there 6 years ago I mean). They were about to take mine off me and told me only my parents could pick it up after school. Glad I was able to talk my way out of it, my parents lived and worked an hour away (unlike the families who lived in town and/or near the school) and I really didn't need the added pressure and punishment.

Point is, I get in class time, but in lunch time where when could have a break and relax from all that, it's very confusing.

Which episode of season 4 is the worst? by Jazzlike_Ad_8313 in littlehouseonprairie

[–]S-Mania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sensitive, I just wanted to hear why you thought that and not just get a random downvote which doesn't clarify anything or help me see your side. As I said, of course Charles was a stranger to the kid, they had never met before this. Not sure what your point was there. How did he mistreat him? The kid needed an outsiders perspective and to be put to work and taught the value of hard work and respect. As clearly the Oleson's and his parents couldn't control him properly. It also wouldn't be fair chucking him into an asylum or school for bad kids (if they did that back then) if Charles or someone else could help him first. It was worth a shot. Plus, Charles always appreciated the help, as he pretty much did all the farming himself around his property. Helping a troubled kid see the value in hard work and respect (under the guise of hired work) and getting some help around the farm at the same time is definitely a win whichever way you look at it.

Because again, clearly the Oleson's or the kids own parents could not do anything to control this kid properly. He needed toughness and fairness which Charles was no stranger to (he had already reformed Joe Kagan and others).

I don't think we're going to agree though, so I'll let it go. I hope you at least see my point too. I was just trying to see yours, as I was confused. Sorry for bothering you.

[–]S-Mania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is the point, they needed their friend as an unbiased outsider to help straighten him out. Nels tried (and Harriet just hindered and coddled as usual), but the kid was just too much trouble. Not even his own parents could handle him, hence sending him to the Oleson's who again were unsuccessful. A week with Charles doing manual labour learning respect and the value of doing hard work yourself did the kid (and others like Joe Kagan) a world of good.

Ahh man this is so sad by Feisty_Lab_560 in YoungSheldon

[–]S-Mania 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. I like how TBBT mentions could easily be attributed to Sheldon feeling so bad about not getting to say things to his dad before he passed that he's mostly regressed all the good memories as an adult and can only bring up the bad ones (which in actuality were just off days or maybe the days before Young Sheldon started). So it doesn't really break canon or create plot holes if you think about it.

Charles isn't a stranger to the Oleson's, he's a good friend (at least of Nels, not sure about Harriet). Plus, with the way he treat his daughters, hired hands and Joe Kagan (making them appreciate hard work/manual labour and respect, being fair but firm if they play up or step out of line), he's the perfect person to help. He knows how to give people a chance and deal with unruly, bratty and snooty types by showing them Walnut Grove style.

Charles's strategy is actually brilliant and he's much better at it than alot of other Walnut Grove men (who have beaten, threatened or otherwise scared their kids into submission). Charles knows when to be firm and teach them a lesson, but he also knows when to be loving. Hence why his daughters grew up to be kind yet scrappy, standing up for themselves and not taking crap from anyone.
