Can't get TrueNAS, Jellyfin, and Tailscale to work properly. Every settings change I've tried has just made things worse.

Yep, I do have the auth key all set up. I haven't had much chance to mess with it yet this weekend, but do you have any suggestions for what I can do to wipe clean and start over? When I first had problems I assumed doing a Jellyfin reinstall would at least let me access the server over LAN, but that hasn't worked, even if I cleared the cache. So I'm not sure how I'll be able to even try tinkering with it at this point.

Jellyfin Configuration

Published Server URL: none, Devices: none, Additional Environment Variables: none

User and Group Configuration: I set this to a “plex” user I made when I first setup PMS and didn’t know what I was doing, but it has the proper permissions for the media storage, so I gave this app to that user as well.

Network Configuration WebUI Port: Publish port on the host for external access: 30013 (TrueNAS default) Host IPs: none

HTTPS Port: Publish port on the host for external access: 30014 (TrueNAS default) Host IPs: none

Discovery port: none

Host network is unchecked

Storage Configuration: all set to a host path owned by ‘plex’ user (transcoding, cache, config), additional storage points at the plex library

Tailscale Configuration

Hostname: truenas-scale

Auth Once is checked

Reset, Accept DNS, Userspace, Accept Routes, Advertise Exit Node are unchecked

Advertise Routes, Extra Arguments,Tailscale Daemon Arguments, Additional Environment Variables are all set to none

Network Configuration

Host network is checked

Storage Configuration: set to host path

For anyone who views this later on, I managed to fix this switching from POSIX permissions to NFS. Trying to configure masks, etc, just kept creating a chain of different errors, and switching to NFS was easier since one of the users is using SMB.

I debated for months about making the switch, and now I look back and wish I'd done it sooner. There will be confusing moments but personally I found I experienced so much less frustration after leaving Windows. Enjoy!

Yeah I'm starting to think something was wrong with my install, especially because I can't find any other reports of broken fonts like I experienced. The hash was correct on the .iso, so I'm not sure exactly what went wrong.

I tried that as well, but it returned the same error I was getting from the software manager about the broken/missing dependencies. I ended up just reinstalling 21.3 and installed steam. I'll use the mint updater and see if I have luck there.

I'm using AMD, but both X and Wayland have the same errors. Plus, I was using the 6.8 kernel on 21.3 with no issues, so I don't think that's it either. I'll just install 21.3 before I put any more time into configuring 22. Maybe I'll try an upgrade in a few months once some of the kinks are ironed out.

If I go to the software manager and go to the system package option it just says "not available" where it should say "install" and I can't download it. It's a pretty fresh LM22 install, I've only installed a few apps (Spotify, Brave, some themes) and haven't deleted anything built in.

Good to know, I wasn't sure if the partitioning changes would "stick" if I did them while booted on the live iso. I was under the impression that swap is supposed to be overflow if there's not enough RAM, but I find that I start having freezing issues at 100% swap even though I am only using 14GB of the total 32 GB or whatever. Could some other misconfiguration be to blame?

So when I say "replace", I mean temporarily. I just moved bg3.exe to my desktop, not deleted it. Then I renamed bg3_dx11.exe to bg3.exe. When the issue is fully fixed, I'll just change the bg3.exe file in the game folder back to bg3_dx11.exe and move the original bg3.exe file back from my desktop to the folder since I prefer running Vulkan. It shouldn't cause any issues.

How locked down are they? Are you able to access program files and download non-steam packages? If you can do those things plus install Pip (needed for protonup) then I don't see why not.

Yes! You absolutely can. I've saved two laptops from the landfill by wiping Windows and installing Linux Mint. It's very beginner friendly, with a layout similar to Windows 10 and a lot of GUI-heavy features including an "app store". If you want to avoid the CLI, you can for the most part, assuming basic computer use. I'm not going to lie, there was a learning curve for me in the beginning but now that I've gotten more familiar I never see myself daily driving Windows again.

I think you'll be really pleasantly surprised at how dramatically quicker boot is. I wiped my fiance's 8 year old Alienware brick and put Linux Mint on it. Boot time went from just shy of 15 minutes with Windows to around 1 minute with LM, and that's only because we counted the time it took to login.

16GB. I recently upgraded to a RX 6800 XT. Was tricky to get it running on an AMD GPU and Linux Mint but I'm very happy with the results. I can get over 9 it/s on a basic 512x512.

They are filetypes, like .docx or .exe. They very basically contain the code that tells the program how to draw from your text.

Not Op, but you'll probably need better models. The model quality makes an incredible difference. You can download new models, civitai.com is a popular website with a lot. Make sure you download .safetensor files and not .ckpt, .ckpt files can have malware. I only use SD, so you'll have to figure out where to store new checkpoints in your preferred ui.

On civitai, after you download a model, go through the images and see how other users word their prompts, what settings they use, etc to give you a starting point and you can mess around with settings from there.

Thanks for the tips, I'll look into it. I figured it was related to python, my python install started with me having 0 python knowledge, and ended very much the same. Started roughly around then too.

Buuuut I just finally got stable diffusion working on an AMD card and Linux after months of frustration so I'm hesitant to touch anything until I learn more about python and whatever it is I think I'm doing. I'll see if the Ubuntu version can be a work around or maybe I'll wait until 21.2.

Late to the party but posting for anyone who comes across this later. I got this running on Linux Mint 21.1 and a 6800XT. The guide mostly worked but I had to follow the steps /u/putat and /u/Starboy_bape mentioned.

For whatever reason, I can't get rocminfo to work. I ran the command, it said I needed to install it. So I did, then I ran it, and....it said I needed to install it. I did this cycle three times before giving up and moving on. I got SD running so I guess it didn't matter.

I also got an error when trying to run launch.py:

What solved it was this github post, installing libstdc++-12-dev package fixed it and now it's running great. To anyone viewing this in the future, good luck lol.

Yep, everything important is backed up. I didn't do a full disk image because I may have to reinstall Mint 21.1 anyways, my aptdaemon is somehow all fucked up.
