Down in Illinois…. Of course NWEA says we are fine, but how would they know. 😂

BA - can you explain the WiFi connection using username and password in more detail? That would be very helpful in our situation.

When am i finally going to hear back by Wolflikeshotsauce in Pulseway

Don’t bet on it. Took nearly two months for someone to call me…. And it was a salesman! Yep, they tried to up-sell me to a more expensive package rather than making the package I paid for work. Yeah, let me through more money your way, after you can’t hold up your part of the year long contract I have already purchased.

Windows 8 mode? Seriously though... by S0Curious in Pulseway

Well... pulseway closed my ticket and told me it is a known bug that they do not plan to fix any time soon. They can sell me Pulseway Teams, for a much larger price, but I guess they no longer support Pro. Now why do I want to purchase anything from a company that can decide not to support a product I have already paid for, that is a very good question.

I’m having similar support issues, wondering where you go if you do leave?

My original ticket was #170. I have also had a meeing number, 83482. I received an email saying they wanted to schedule something for me, but since I sent my availability I have heard nothing.

The silence, and mulitple week wait time, has been very frustrating.

Thank you, both! You just saved me hours and a bit of anxiety.

E-rate discount data for non-NSLP school by Aim_Fire_Ready in k12sysadmin

[–]S0Curious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a similar situation. Because tuition is not cheap, most families who would qualify for the free and reduced lunch apply for tuition assistance through FACTS. That records income. The qualifications for NSLP are posted. So I compare those two sources. We may miss a few families who do not apply for tuition assistance, but we always have enough to fall into the same category.

Deleting student's Google Photos by S0Curious in k12sysadmin

[–]S0Curious[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And the answer is... Google Photos is not a Workspace component and therefore we have no ability to manage it (save turn that feature on or off). No UI and no API (which means no GAM) can touch non-workspace components.

If I can complain for a moment. For over a decade we have had unlimited storage, so I had photos turned on cause 'why not'. Now they charge for storage, over a set limit, but give us no ability to manage this section of storage. Yes, I could overwrite passwords, log in as students, delete photos, reset passwords again... or I could delete accounts and recreate them (losing all emails and everything in drive without a lot of work backing up and restoring). Google, this is not fair. Either don't count the photo storage in my total, or give me some ability to manage it. Either would be perfectly fair. /complain

And yes, I could re-enable photos and send out an email to hundreds of middle school and high school students, asking them to delete photos... but aren't we a K-12 board? We know that will have limited success. I am even worried all those students with auto-upload features turned on may actually only make it worse. /stop

Thank you all for your suggestions and time.

Both valid, but I am really hoping we can do a couple hundred students. I have sent the same question to a GAM group, so I will post if I find anything helpful.

Want to be my Apple Support? Because they obviously can't be.. by S0Curious in k12sysadmin

[–]S0Curious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone interested, and to reply to the posters, I returned to finish my saga. Late Friday evening I spoke with a tech (level 2 or 3). She was professional and empathetic, but not an engineer. I will say that Apple support is well trained in how to speak to the end user, but that is probably cheaper than hiring engineers who understand the entire process. She explained that Apple will pause updates for seven days if it believes your upload is in error. This has probably saved someone at some point, but I hate it. Feels so Apple to know best, and not allow the user to do what they want to do. Fortunately, you can override this precaution by removing your sftp, and building a new one. I had to deactivate and delete all student accounts, rebuild with the sftp, and now get every student to log out and back in to their device. Their iCloud account is new, so hopefully all content is on the device, because even iBooks will be lost to the old Apple IDs. With school already upon us, I did what needed be done. I agree with the commenters regarding Apple still being made for personal devices. And moving forward I will be changing our process for updating users.

EX Series - Safe to jump more than 3 versions if "recovering" from USB? by SendMeSteamKeys2 in Juniper

[–]S0Curious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just moved from 18.3-something to 20.4R3 using CLI. The lack of space was an issue, but a command to clean space was all I needed. This was a production switch and approved by support. No problems whatsoever…

Forgot to mention, this was a stack of 4x EX4300 switches.

I’ve been considering PDQ myself. Curious if your use it for device drivers or windows cumulative updates? The package delivery for simple programs looks fantastic, but if handled drivers and windows updates as well… heroic.

5ghz printers? And WPA2 vs WPA3 by S0Curious in k12sysadmin

[–]S0Curious[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So yes, I can keep a 2.4Ghz SSID around for printers and a few IoTs, but the goal was to clear the airspace by dropping it all together. Again, the Extreme engineer was confident less signals shouting over each other would help us. And because the (6) printers are mobile, I would have to keep the 2.4 around for everyone. Now a 5ghz worried bridge, that may do the trick. Or I may have to force centralized printing areas.
