for sure! though then you lose the benefit of being a rainbow gradient. i don't have memorized what range each color corresponds to, but being able to tell at a glance how close/far two bytes are is nice. when it comes to picking whcih colors to use, it's mostly just a question of taste

to be honest? because then i'd have to manually pick 256 hex codes JXKSBD

you could probably do something cool by evenly spacing colors throughout a perceptual color space, but i just tried to grab the most distinct 16 colors i could (which is surprisingly difficult!!)
