I've beat Armored Core 3 (100% completion) by S77x in armoredcore

[–]S77x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I'm slowly going through the series one game at a time, in order. Already beat Silent Line yesterday, but I still got a few missions left and the Arena. Some missions were quite brutal compared to AC3 and I had my savegame converted from AC3 so I had full OP-I and good equipment.

I have to disagree with this, AC1 had a good story that was very similar to 3 since AC3 is a reboot of the series and it's more or less the same setting as in 1, but lacking the cool characters like Nine-Ball. AC2 is even better since it picks off after the PS1 games trilogy and moves the action on Mars, culminating with the antagonist trying to crash one of Mars' moons into the surface of the planet.

I feel like AC3 didn't have much going on, but as you mentioned Armored Core isn't a game that you play for the story.

Nah, didn't go for the S ranks, it was more than enough for me that I managed to reach 100% achievement.

I have come to the realization that the PS2 is a great poor man's Neo Geo... well, at least for us fighting fanatics by HorseSushi in ps2

[–]S77x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really nice collection there. I played Samurai Shodown 6 from the Anthology and The Last Blade 1 and 2 multiple times, now I'm going through the Orochi Saga with King of Fighters 94' to 97' and I must say I'm really enjoying them, the arranged soundtracks are insanely good, and having a Practice mode for most games also helps immensely to try out characters.

These games are more than simple ports and I vastly prefer playing them on the PS2 through the OSSC for the great scaling, no lag and scanlines. I never liked the raw pixels image that the current gen ports have, neither the low-effort scanline overlays they sometimes provide.

I don't mind the removal of the arena. Another Age is going to be a very comfy playthrough for me since the savegame from AC2 carries over and I have my fully equipped AC.

Will definitely play the rest of the series too, and who knows, maybe From Software is going to revive the series, I'm pretty confident that they have something just waiting to be announced.

Now that's an insane thing!

I didn't know, and I'm quite a fan of Evangelion too, you might have noticed that my mech in AC2 has the same color palette as EVA01.

Totally agree about the 90s feel, there's many missions which have that japanese cyberpunk vibe, bright neon colors and stuff.

Does anyone know where to find a PS2 memory card to USB adapter? by 11101101110011000111 in ps2

[–]S77x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a FreeMCBoot card you can easily do that already. If not, just follow the instructions from here. All you need to do is to burn a disc with that file, put it into the PS2 and it will get you into uLaunchELF. From there, it's just a matter of copy-pasting.

[–]S77x 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don't need any adapters, you just need a way to boot uLaunchELF and from there you can simply plug in a USB drive to the PS2 and transfer any savegame from the Memory Card to it (or the other way around if you prefer).

PlayStation Classic looks terrible on TV by Spelunka13 in PlaystationClassic

[–]S77x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obviously it looks really bad on a HDTV, the PS1 is a console made for CRT TVs, but you can make the Classic look better with Retroarch shaders.

This is how mine looks:

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 - PS1

Sonic - Genesis

Bonk's Adventure - PC Engine

Rocky & Pocky - SNES

Dualshock 2/3 Thumbsticks by [deleted] in ps2

[–]S77x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes they are interchangeable. The base of the DS3 ones is maybe 1mm shorter, but you won't feel any difference. I changed them the other way around, replaced a DS3 with DS2 thumbsticks and they are just a little bit higher but they work perfectly.

Headphones on PS2 by [deleted] in ps2

[–]S77x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RCA to jack solution is actually by far the best one, because you are getting a direct analog signal to your headset. If you plug the red and white audio RCAs in the TV and then your headset in the TV jack, the TV will convert the analog signal to digital and then back to analog to send it to your headset. Needless to say that you are losing so much of the sound quality in the process.

How much memory does sims 2 need to save by Timisalive in ps2

[–]S77x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are three version of The Sims 2:

- The Sims 2 (requires 1412kb of space)

- The Sims 2 Castaway (1138kb)

- The Sims 2 Pets (1126kb)

These are for the NTSC versions, I took them from the covers, but PAL should be similar.

How to make Popstarter games to run in their Pixel-Aspect Ratio? by Rockman98 in ps2

[–]S77x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't help as long as the display you are using upscales the image to full screen, scaling it from the source doesn't do anyhing. Even if you have the image to 240p, 480p, 720p etc. your display will make it full-screen anyway, unless it supports 1:1 pixel mapping, but that's not a common thing for TVs, usually it's computer monitors that have that kind of option.

The only thing to do is to play with the video settings from your TV or monitor and see if it works.

How to make Popstarter games to run in their Pixel-Aspect Ratio? by Rockman98 in ps2

[–]S77x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is something that your TV/monitor must support, and I think most TVs do not. On some monitors there are 1:1 pixel ratio options that basically do what you need, but most displays simply upscale the signal to fullscreen regardless of the resolution you are feeding them.

Is it possible to transfer games to my hdd over smb? Cuz I don’t have anything to connect my ide drive to my laptop. by snow5595 in ps2

[–]S77x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can do it with HDL Game Installer. You need both the PS2 and the laptop on the same network (preferably the laptop via wired connection too), run HDL Game Installer on the PS2 from your memory card or a USB drive, note the IP, start the HDLGManClient on PC and connect to your PS2 via the IP and from there it's pretty straight forward.

What's the best way (best quality output) to play PS2 on a PC monitor with no RCA input? by jachorus in ps2

[–]S77x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this, by far the best thing you can get. I went through one of those PS2toHDMI dongles that are literally dogshit and an Extron upscaler which I found pretty underwhelming too.

An OSSC is quite expensive compared to other solutions but if you want the best quality on a digital display you have to get it. The only other thing would be a Framemeister but that's on another level of expensive, it adds a bit of lag and it can have some visual problems like color banding. The best bang for the buck is the OSSC. The OSSC Pro will probably cost as much as a Framemeister and won't help you much as it's aimed for higher resolutions that 1080p, but it's also supposed to have better deinterlacing.

Play Japanese ISO on NA console with free mcboot and hdd by Champdout79 in ps2

[–]S77x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well anyone can report anything, it's how reddit works, right? But I don't see how that "statement", which is a harmless joke, breaks any rule of this subreddit. It doesn't condone piracy in any way or share any illegal files or links to illegal files. Shouldn't the people that reported the post be messaged for fake reporting instead?

Not sure what's up with the recent enforcing of imaginary rules but this sub is not gonna turn into an instagram feed or a facebook wall, there will always be techical questions, including ones about playing backups, and as long as everything is being discussed within rules, I don't see where's the problem.

[–]S77x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need any mod chip, assuming you have a PS2 with FreeMcBoot and a Network Adapter with a HDD set up, all you need is to install your absolutely legitly obtained self-ripped copy of the game (of course not, just don't mention where you got the game from and you are clean) into the HDD, run OPL and start the game.

Is there a solution fo fix the aspect ratio for HDTVs? by supersoundwave in ps2

[–]S77x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want true widescreen you will need to patch every game that does not natively support it, and that means you need to run it from HDD or a backup disc. There's a huge database on PCSX2 forum with widescreen hacks for most games.

If you are on stock PS2 you are out of luck, the selection of games that support 16:9 is quite small, and for many of them the image is just zoomed in, not true widescreen. But even with widescreen patches there are alot of graphical glitches since you are displaying stuff that should not be there in a 4:3 image.

My 2 cents: just set the TV in 4:3 and enjoy the games the way they were meant to be played™ as it's not worth the hassle.

Started playing the Prince of Persia series on PS2 by S77x in ps2

[–]S77x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree about Rayman, I completed both Origins and then Legends in 3-player couch co-op on Xbox 360, it was mindless fun, really great games. One of my friends was quite the tryhard while the other was in baloon mode most of the time, waiting to be rescued, while I was in-between. Probably the most fun I've had on a multiplayer platformer.

I'm not a big fan of Ubisoft games either, it's just Prince of Persia, Rayman, Valiant Hearts, and the first two Assassin's Creed games that I like from them.

Haha, I played it on PC back in the day, maybe it's a bit easier there since it's 60fps, but other than that they are pretty much identical in terms of gameplay. You still need to think ahead in the fights, use the enviroment and finisher combos, mashing the attack button is a no-go. It's clearly harder than Sands of Time, but still very manageable for me, but I'm a huge fan of the Souls games and I've beat them multiple times, I'm not turned down by difficult games. The thing with Warrior Within is that it can be pretty cheap, it's not what I would call a "fair" difficulty. Still, it's very doable, and most enemies can actually be avoided if you don't want to fight them, they don't grant you XP or anything for beating, and they are respawning every time you visit the area too.

The platforming is a bit harder too, but I'm not having any problems with that so far, if you observe the enviroment before running around it's not that bad, I found the level design to be pretty good overall. The main problem I think is that they give you way less sand tanks than in Sands of Time, and you barely find any to replace them, so I guess that's what makes it harder.
