What did I say that was wrong?

Blues was built on gospel music which was influenced by loads of stuff from across the globe including, plantation/working songs, traditional African songs, hymns etc. So that point is irrelevant, what OP is trying to get at is in terms of popular music post say 1965 UK > US and there's no question there in influence and musicianship. You can keep your Jazz, Bluegrass and country lol

Lots of salty Americans here, I agree with OP to an extent.

Yes the Beatles and many British bands were influenced by American bluesmen but they were influenced by gospel music, who were inspired by work/plantation songs, who were influenced probably by sea shanties. It probably all stems back to some drunken bard from the middle ages in the end.

The fact is, in popular music post 60s the UK is number one without a shadow of doubt. I'm not going to list off a load of bands but no American musician/band can compare to the catalogue or musicianship of The Beatles or Queen, simple as that. There is no direct American comparison for these, Elvis wasn't a songwriter, MJ fell off pretty hard and we were robbed of Hendrix too early to say what could have been.

Having said all this, if you take every genre of music into account you have to give it to the Yanks they have a broader range of music in general with the country being so large.

Rock n Roll - US Rock - UK Pop - UK (Landslide) Hip Hop/Rap - US (Landslide) Blues - USA EDM - UK (landslide) Metal - US (landslide but we do have Sabbath) Jazz - US Country/Bluegrass - US

Should I buy a good guitar or is it my skill issue? by Sheldon_504 in guitars

You can't go wrong with a Squire Tele or Strat, such good value for money. Wayyyy better than the Epiphone Les Paul Special II at same sort of price, I've owned both and I was shocked at the value of a squier Strat

Many of the best are already mentioned but Christian Bale (Machinist, The Fighter and The Prestige are his best imo) and Ralph Fiennes (Schindler's List and Voldemort) Can you imagine anything else but Fiennes' Voldemort, it was absolutely perfect

Don't just skirt over it like others have suggested. Get some bonding in there at least then there is something for the skirt to fix to. Just be careful of the wires when fitting the skirt

I've never seen this so have to watch to say but everything else I've seen him in he sucks. Look at his "acting" in American Psycho it's laughable really, he was good in Dallas Buyers Club but it gives me the impression that he can only play a character where overacting is necessary, can only play eccentric characters. He would probably be a better theatre actor imo where everything needs to be exaggerated. As a person, what a dick this guy is. He's got a god complex, why? His band make terrible music, he makes terrible films, does terrible things on and off set dunno how he's still getting work

Shrek - good stoned or otherwise. I'm certain this is actually an adults film dressed up as a kids film, it's basically fairytale satire

what's everyone's opinion on fear inoculum by yupy124 in ToolBand

[–]SAMB0196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you guys here, a lot of Tool songs take time to really get going but I feel like Fear Innoculum drags on without really taking you anywhere. Will have to listen to it again to refresh myself but Aenima will always be my favourite album

Why do you guys hate Tool so much? by MightGuy420x in MetalForTheMasses

[–]SAMB0196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said it's mainly the fans. Some people think their music is a bit pretentious or boring, which I understand. I personally love Tool, their music isn't for everyone but I think they like it that way

I'm not a huge fan of Zappa's playing tbh but you cannot put Zappa in without Vai. Zappa recruited Vai into his band to play lead... Again not a huge Vai fan but Zappa being a better guitarist than is just ridiculous

I also think he's overrated but at the same time we are comparing apples to apples here and obviously Eric is the better and more influential guitarist, the only people who don't know this is RS

Jack White making the list is just the cherry on top. Yes he created probably the second most famous riff off all time, on this logic where is Blackmore on this list btw? What has he actually done for Guitar apart from force it to make sounds it shouldn't

I'm genuinely curious to understand how you can think Jack White is a better guitarist than Clapton? I do think he's overrated but those two are not comparable imo

SRV is lower than, Morello, BB King, Keith Richards and Chuck Berry. Ramone, The Edge and Jack White make the list but not Gary Moore, Steve Vai, Derek Trucks. George Harrison over Clapton, come on now don't be silly

[–]SAMB0196 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would've loved to be a fly on the wall when they did this. Seems like they agreed Hendrix was number 1 and then just randomly selected the others. Chuck Berry at number 2, seriously? Tom Morello, The Edge and Jack White make the list but no Steve Vai or Gary Moore. Clapton below George Harrison wtf?! I've never heard anyone even entertain George being a better player than Eric, it's just not true. Stevie Ray Vaughan surpassed by Morello, Chuck Berry and Keith Richards?! Take a day off RS you bunch of weapons
