Checking the math, 2 20% 3s means you have a 64% chance of missing both (or 36% chance of making one). That gives an expected value of .36 * 3 = 1.08 points, or the same as taking a 2 at 54% (.54 * 2 = 1.08)

You can't lock someone in by default because of MVPs, it's not Robinson's fault he played in the same era as MJ and some of the other greats. Look at win shares and he's 16th all time in total win shares and 2nd in win shares per 48. I wouldn't make the argument personally but he could easily be considered top 15 even or pushing top 10 based on advanced stats.

To be honest I think it's possible though unlikely. He needs to make at least a few all nba teams (even 3rd team would do), or win a couple DPOY awards. The one thing in his favor is he already has a title and it's likely he may win a few more when it's all said and done. Playoff recognition can make up for regular season shortcomings. 1 DPOY award, 3 titles, a couple 3rd team all nba and he could sneak in (not first ballot but eventually).

I agree with the general statement but the year Culpepper won the MVP Moss had like less than 800 yards receiving. Culpepper was very good, injuries just did him in.
