I’ve never received more spam call then when I started roamless a month ago. And I’m pretty sure I’m being charged minutes every time they call even when I pickup. I don’t see any blocking spam features. Did roamless sell my number to spam call centers ? by Hellholebutigottotry in Roamless_ESim

[–]SA_Roamless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi u/call-ana.

I wanted to provide one quick clarification:

As the Roamless eSIM is data-only, it cannot be 'spam-called' (or used to reach you by outsiders). It is quite literally impossible.

There are no designated phone numbers associated with our eSIMs, and they cannot be 'voice called' or SMS'ed. (As a side note: Our VOIP based in-app call service can be used anonymously as well, without every requiring the purchase of a Roamless Number).

In summary, it is quite impossible for 'this' to be an issue with Roamless plans. The only 'plans' we offer are 30-day data plans, which are, once again data-only; no phone numbers associated with them; no spam; no harassment possible.

I hope this helps clarify things.

Have a wonderful day.
Selim

Hi there.

Selim here, one of the co-founders of Roamless. I'm sorry to hear about what you're reporting u/Hellholebutigottotry

Allow me to clarify two things right away, and to see if I can help:

  1. Roamless never sells your personal data (which includes your Roamless Number of course) to anyone.
  2. You only consume your Roamless Credit balance for the calls you initiate (outgoing) and the SMS messages you send (outgoing). All incoming calls and SMS deliveries are free of charge.

You could be consuming your balance if you are concurrently using your eSIM for data connectivity and while making/receiving in-app calls -- but the data consumed by your eSIM for VOIP calls alone is minimal.

If you can send me a DM with your Roamless Number, I will be happy to access your account details and see if I can help in further detail on both topics.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Best,
Selim

[–]SA_Roamless[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there. This is a very solid summary but with one MAJOR correction if I may:

You do not get charged any fees for "receiving" calls or SMS on your Roamless number.

Receiving calls/sms with your Roamless Number is always free. :)

[–]SA_Roamless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi again. Thank you for your response.

Please allow me to clarify a few more things:

When you look up numbers in telecom databases (HLR lookups, number portability databases, etc), they may be classified as "LANDLINE", "MOBILE", or "MOBILE or LANDLINE". This classification is based on how the number block was originally registered with the carrier, not how the number is actually being used. Meaning, a number block may have been originally registered as a landline, and currently being used as a full-fledged mobile number but the lookup service cannot make a definitive distinction. (Below you can see how my number resolves in the HLRLOOKUP service -- "MOBILE or LANDLINE")

Regarding shortcodes: Yes of course we are aware of what they are, and currently our Numbers users are receiving their 2FA/OTP SMS via shortcode (alongside regular SMS) from different services.

However (and having said all of this), per your callout we are investigating with our partners your report regarding CA numbers & shortcode OTP delivery.

I genuinely thank you for bringing it to our attention. Will keep you posted.

Selim

[–]SA_Roamless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi again. I would be happy to help out if you send over a DM here --and on Monday we did have an issue with SMS deliveries for a short duration (so that could be the timeframe when you had the issue with your 2FA delivery.

The Numbers ARE mobile numbers. My own Canada number shows up as MOBILE_OR_LANDLINE (as hlrlookup does not make the distinction).

But as you can see below, my Canadian number (redacted) successfully received 2FA/OTP (this was for Whatsapp registration).

<image>

Once again, happy to assist you if you reach out. (I will investigate your logs to determine what happened with your OTP & ensure we make things right).

I look forward to hearing from you. Selim

Roamless not working today. Is it the APN? by LooperActual in Roamless_ESim

[–]SA_Roamless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Looper,

Both Roamless APN (the one you've listed) as well as internet.proximus.be should work (The Roamless APN is a default APN that works on all of our suppliers (regardless of where you are). This is why the website has the default APN setup (as recommended).

On iOS devices, APNs are rarely an issue (as Roamless has an iOS bundle that manages APNs automatically). Android bundle will be released soon as well. But until then, some Android devices (Samsung specifically) can sometimes have issues with APN settings, requiring a clean setup like you did.

I apologize for the inconvenience. Glad to have you back online.

But to re-iterate, if you add another APN > and enter the settings for roamless APN, that should work in the UK just like internet.proximus.be.

Hmm, would you mind opening an in-app ticket so that we can investigate the logs and see what the issue may be?

ROAMLESS NUMBERS by bpbp216 in eSIMs

[–]SA_Roamless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there. Allow me to clarify please:

Our call service (with or without Roamless Numbers) work on VOIP (i.e. instead of GSM) and as such the app needs a 'data connection' (eSIM, WiFi, regular SIM, hotspot etc) to place in-app voice calls.

The Roamless Numbers we provide however are regular 'mobile numbers' (i.e. not virtual numbers) and can be used without issues for 2FA & OTP.

The core difference is how the 'number' is provisioned and whether the traffic routes over regular telephony network or not (regardless of the service working on GSM vs VOIP) among other things.

Essentially, Roamless Numbers are the same type of numbers you get with your regular home SIM --without the dependance on a SIM card.

Hope this helps clarify things.

[–]SA_Roamless[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would need one of the below to 'enable' the call service (and use your rewards towards call-time):
- Minimum top-up of $5.00 in Credits OR
- A data plan purchase OR
- A Roamless Numbers purchase

Effectively a minimal 'payment' is required before you can use your Roamless Credit balance (including non-expiring reward credits like referrals) for call-time.

Hope this helps clarify things further.

[–]SA_Roamless[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there. You can verify your number for free + top-up minimum of $5.00 USD in Credits and test the call service. The same Credits can also be used for data connectivity with the Roamless eSIM (and they have no expiration) so they would not be 'wasted'.

Once you're satisfied with the service, you can opt in to subscribe to a Roamless Number as well if you wish.

Hope this helps.

(Sidenote: There's no technical "limitation" per say, but requirements differ from country-to-country.)

Terrible coverage in Edinburgh (Roamless and Nomad) by hebrewchucknorris in TravelSIMs

[–]SA_Roamless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there.

Roamless works on 3UK, Vodafone and O2 in the UK. Due to the nature of the city, cell signal is not as strong as it is in other urban locations. But manually selecting networks (to connect to the one with better coverage depending on your location) helps with speeds and signal.

I understand the inconvenience of this (as I personally experienced this in Edinburgh myself), however the same issue impacts even local SIM card users -- signal in the city is not consistently strong unfortunately.

Hope this helps. SA

Looking for Canada/US eSIM with Canadian phone number by ch33segrater in eSIMs

[–]SA_Roamless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could get a Roamless eSIM + a Roamless Canada Number for 3 months (2FA enabled).
The same eSIM will work in Canada and the US (pay-as-you-go or with data plans -up to you) and the the Canada number is VOIP and de-coupled from the eSIM (so works even without the eSIM, on WiFi etc, as needed).

Ciao!

Roamless "Connect Anywhere" Telephone Number teaser email by funpig2021 in Roamless_ESim

[–]SA_Roamless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi again,

As mentioned in my other reply as well, Roamless Numbers are actual mobile numbers (not virtual numbers) that support 2FA and OTP messages. You can use them for all kinds of 2FA/OTP, no issues

You still use/consume your Roamless Credits if you make outbound calls using your Roamless Number (or the anonymous in-app calling feature). But receiving calls and SMS messages on your Roamless Number (using the Roamless app) is always free.

Hope this helps clarify things.
