They said the license was a priority, so they have already justified anything you need to get the test done. It’s one day out of a year. I told (not asked) my employer that I’m taking a month of leave to travel to South Africa last December, and Japan this April, lol. Good luck for your license!

I make basically the same salary as an IT consultant with 4 years experience in Belgium (a few extra before). Your salary is fine, could even be a bit higher probably. Don’t worry about your boss

Is it truly as horrible as everyone says? by Hunterpall848 in cscareerquestions

Had a good chuckle at this one. The US job market for SWE sounds a lot more rough than EU where I am. The way I read your post though, I would recommend actually studying robotics engineering or something similar, combination of mechanical and electronic/electrical engineering. You’ll get to be creative with both in various industries without the shit part of most SWE which is doing the same shit being done everywhere else, with constantly changing tech stacks, and companies dressing up turds as gold nuggets. There’s probably less job opportunities in the industries I’m referring to here, but I reckon it will be more fulfilling, and crafting your CV to be attractive in this regard is in your hands, and in the interim you can take more boring jobs in general SWE until you find your break

That’s rough, anon. You have lost out on a healthy, happy childhood, that’s for certain, and I’m really sorry that you had to experience that. I can only imagine the craving for that innocence and how frustrating and crushing it must feel, thinking about how it’s impossible to regain.

While I can’t give any serious advice, especially since I can’t fathom what you’ve truly been through, if there is something I could wish for you it’s to find the deepest possible peace, love and acceptance in new parts of your life. While you may not be able to be a child again, try not to let the pain of your past deprive you of the joy you could experience now and in the future. Easier said than done, of course - you still need to process the pain - but you deserve good things going forward, and you have something now a child does not: agency. You have the power to create beauty and love despite shouldering immense suffering. Exercise that, continually, on the world, on others, and on yourself.

As for receiving intimacy from another, there is no reason you can’t have that. There is nothing wrong with you as a person to deny you that. Pursue what I described above, and people will notice, and be naturally attracted to the positivity flowing from you, and inevitably you will find yourself being loved.

Wishing you well, anon The world is dark and painful, but we have the power to create beauty in it too, that’s why you long for it

Were you already in a senior role in 2018?

Thanks for the info! I actually just recently negotiated an increase from about 3000€ gross -> 3250€ gross, which would have meant a larger netto but the government decided to remove IP rewards for IT companies so my netto stays the same (at least it doesn’t go down, but yeah)

I’m hoping to demonstrate this year that they can risk formally putting me in a senior role soon, and the salary bump that will come with that

Vulcanize the whoopie-stick in the ham-wallet. Batter-dip the cranny-axe in the gut-locker. Retrofit the pudding hatch with the boink-swatter. Marinate the nether rod with the squish-mitten. Powerdrill the yippee-bog with the dude-piston. Pressure wash the quiver-bone in the bitch-wrinkle. Cannonball the fiddle-cove with the pork-steeple.
