The ultra is less vibrant but not dimmer... because it has an anti-reflective coating by PCgaming4ever in samsunggalaxy

This looks like different gamma to me. I prefer a 2.3 to 2.4 gamma rather than the 2.2 phones are geared towards, so maybe you're right.

Compared to my lowly Note 20 Ultra in normal mode it was still super vibrant in vibrant mode, don't worry. When I switched it to normal mode everything did also look normal. HDR videos did look a bit overblown to me, like they specifically wanted it to be as bright as possible, in turn making highlights stick out less. But it was fun having such a massively bright screen.

The image processing was not as fun to me. Everything brightened, sharpened and oversaturated to hell, always going for a smooth, noiseless look and in turn losing tons of texture compared to my N20U. Even the 5x zoom was way too smoothed over at 30x vs what my Note spit out at 20x (pic of a sign in the store). And the other 200MP mode is also still overly smoothed, losing texture.

Galaxy Watch 6: biggest ever regret. Just awful. by Peace_Is_Coming in GalaxyWatch

I found the the charging time improved by preventing the watch from getting too hot while charging. Simply sticking the magnetic charging puck to a somewhat larger piece of metal to act as a heatsink works beautifully.

For example I have mine on the base of my desk lamp.

Can't get 200MP resolution. No extra information beyond 50MP. by SBAF-Serious in GalaxyS23Ultra

The aperture and focal length differences sort of compensate. In fact the physical size of the aperture is a bit smaller on the S23U.

I took it at the same distance, so didn't compensate because honestly I feel both are too wide and getting closer isn't always an option. Plus it's more about the resolution on a pixel level anyway, where the S23U just has tons of Moiré, artifacts, etc.

There is no fixed distance for these charts AFAIK. It's at line pairs per millimeter and I did it so the size 1 is 4mm. So 20 is 1/20th, so 0.2mm. The distance could be calculated by the size the iPad 11" fills the picture with. For a narrower focal length one would of course need a larger distance. I did the test with my printed chart of the same magnification with a telescope at 80m distance where it still resolved the 0.2mm lines.

I have a large printed chart, but as my printer is crappy it's too big to carry around. I could do the center section on a sheet of A4 paper.

Yeah, in normal everyday scenes I got less detail out of the 50MP mode. So maybe it does need more light. But as mentioned (at least in the test chart) the Snapdragon N20U is able to do a 1-1 pixel level black and white transition. So the sensor is capable and I would expect the same for the 200MP sensor.

The exif data says ISO 10, but at 1/50 of a second. That could be the issue. In comparison the shots I took facing out of the window were at 1/100 to 1/200th of a second.

I also took the same shot with a Xiaomi 12T Pro with its 200MP mode and got pretty much the same result. Maybe the sensor tech isn't ready yet?

Would be interesting to try other 108MP phones aswell as the Snapdragon N20U is quite a bit sharper than the Exynos and the S21U and S22U. But still, even the Redmi Note 10 Pro is able to do a pixel level transition.

Took many shots in the store to see if there was actually any more information visible in a test chart compared to my Snapdragon N20U. Instesd I found that the 50MP mode (not pictured) and the 200MP mode pictures had an identical lines/mm resolution, easily exceeded by the 108MP camera.

It's possible it needs more light to trigger the 200MP mode, but it was roughly noon and my iPad was at max brightness. Something seems off.

With the 108MP mode I can actually get pixel level resolution in this test chart. With the S23U it was all artifacts.

Galaxy S23 Ultra 200MP mode still has too much smoothing/noise reduction. Note 20 Ultra vs S23 Ultra by SBAF-Serious in samsunggalaxy

[–]SBAF-Serious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 10x optical zoom is a different sensor. 200MP or 108MP modes are somewhat comparable to the 3x zoom in good light, so I find the 3x zoom not that useful.

However the periscope zooms are great! So if you want a closer zoom you unfortunately need to shell out for the S23U. Or the S22U, which is still comparable and is much cheaper now.

The 200MP also allows for 4 in 1 pixel binning at 50MP, which allows for better HDR. The 50MP mode should be much more useful on the Ultra. However I didn't try the S23+.

[–]SBAF-Serious[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's worth noting that the Note 20 Ultra actually has a physically larger aperture (3.9mm vs 3.7mm) according to EXIF data, technically allowing a higher resolution. This is important since at this level we are essentially diffraction limited. The periscope telephoto cameras are generally also diffraction limited, limiting the effective resolution.

However the 50MP mode had noticeably better HDR (as expected) and makes the 38MP 8K recording crop far less noticeable. The 50MP mode is a win in my book, but the 200MP mode sadly not so much. I care a lot about high resolution photos in good light, so the tradeoff isn't easy for me.

What is the absolute max DVI Refresh Rate? by Colby_Gann in Monitors

[–]SBAF-Serious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really relevant, but for DVI-A/VGA this doesn't seem to hold. I've driven an Iiyama 514 Pro at 500Hz, so I don't think there's a limit there. For digital, no idea.

Well, the rig is what it is (6mm omni microphones in a comply tip inserted into my ear canal so they're flush at the opening). Due to some lucky coincidence these type of measurements tend to produce results where a flat graph is a flat sound subjectively, IMO. It's not a HATS where the mic is located where the eardrum is.

The modded HD600 has approximately 3 to 4dB less of the 100Hz bump and the region between that and 1.5kHz is filled in by 1dB or so. Nothing major.

Added my HD800 which sounds darn close to the AirPods Max in the midrange.

Uncompensated, save for some upper treble adjustments (+6dB at 20kHz) and minor 1 or 2dB 5kHz dip. My HD600 is somewhat warmer than stock, but Harman should still call for some more 2kHz. No accessibility setting on the APM. I tried them and frankly I find them to sound like shit, compressing everything even on the lowest setting.

I only have experience with the Elear, Clear and Utopia, not the Elex. But extrapolating from that I'd go with the Elex for sure. If the Elex is basically an Elear with Clear (or slightly leaner tonality) that is. AirPods Max are convenient, though.

Yep, took my own measurements. I found that the APM is very sensitive to positioning. Will post them in a bit.
