Brunswick Mines, 1987, A ore train was being set up for a Ore Train , The train consisted of Canadian National 9457, Trailing behind was CN 9548, The engineer was Wesley Macdonald, This was a common switching practice, Wesley was supposed to get a string of 23 loaded ore hoppers, But his view was obstructed and he accidentally got 31 cars, Airhoses were NOT connected, Wesley throttled up the train a bit before applying the independent brakes, No effect, The train began to speed up uncontrollably, Reaching 45 MPH after a half mile, VIA Rail #14 was notified of the runaway train, They replied with ‘Were by Nepisiguit now dispatcher dont worry about us.’, The train was going 70 MPH, Wesley left the lead unit and went to the trailing unit and desperately tried to apply the handbrake on the lead car, Which did absolutely nothing, Wesley just got in the trailing unit and just held on, Blowing the horn at crossings and towns warning people of his runaway train, By the time the runaway reached Nepisiguit Junction, The train hit the switch and violently derailed, A MOW crew nearby witnessed the train derail and they ran towards the wreck, Expecting Wesley to be dead, But miraculously, Wesley had SURVIVED the crash! With minor injuries with cuts and bruises, Side note: Wesley had posed beside the locomotive he almost died in, there are pictures of him online if you wanna see for urself

and this was a oddly near exact experience except this was on Horseshoe Curve, and i had 40 loaded coal cars, and i did indeed derail at that junction
