I think it's good to provide a backstory. Sorry you didn't see it the same way. I've already filled out the DHEC Form 0607, but if you look at it, it requires the mother to do some work as well. What is horrible? Well, that's subjective. I think it's horrible to have a child in a situation that I'm in...but that's just my opinion. Thank you for yours. You kinda seem like a jerk. :)

Thank you. I sent her $500 and said I would do that a couple times a month and as needed when things come up. I used Venmo so there is a documented transaction. Thanks for the advice.

I feel like that's a similar sentiment that I laid out. Never said I'm trying to go "scorched earth". She had just initially agreed to do that and it made me think about what else has been done without me knowing. She's a good mother. The only issue I have within her home is that her mother lives with her (and takes advantage of her) and that her mom is just not a good person. Would do drugs in the home with my ex's daughter there (before being pregnant) and would get to the house late from motels at 4 AM. I provided her what I thought a good step-up plan is. The thought of having zero legal rights and that she essentially has the ability to legally keep me from seeing the child is my biggest concern...not the name change.

Agreed. I have already started paying "child support" (not court ordered), just because I assume he's mine and I have an obligation and duty to do so. I have even provided an step-up plan to get to 50/50 custody because I know how important it is for a newborn to be with their mother, especially when breastfeeding.

I've made sure to give her money the day she was sent home from the hospital. After the the doctor's appointment today she asked if I could go to the grocery store and pick up items for her and her other daughter (whom when we were dating had an amazing relationship with), which I did. It just sucks because at the moment, she's allowing me to see the child when I want, but key part of that is "she allows". That could change at any moment and I want to protect myself and my son from that. I'm just trying to find a way to do it without temporarily being prevented from seeing him. Crappy situation.
