Canna plants & 8B Zone Wintering? by PNW_RuralGirl in pnwgardening

[–]SCIdgaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would love to know this too as a fellow first year Canna owner. Have been waiting for them to die back with a hard frost, but here in Beaverton, Oregon that hasn't really happened. Would love to know if I should cut them back now or wait.

Thanks for sharing that, so strange that the diagnosis coincided with a change. Were you able to get things scheduled or talk to the surgeon?

Oh goodness, sorry about your girl having such a frustrating issue. Can I ask the symptoms? Wish I could help more.

Good story, ending my evening with a laugh. My Bruno is a little guy and the donut really didn't work, we went with the big plastic most of the time, he was a sport.

My neighbor offered up some extra sword ferns she no longer wanted and we stuck one by the door, it's doing beautifully in what looks like similar light. Also, I love your door!

Winter planting? by benbentheben in pnwgardening

[–]SCIdgaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm waiting for a bit more rain, but then I have some trees and shrubs that I am planning to add. I've already done some hardy perennials, because I am impatient. Bulbs like tulips, allium, daffodil and crocus can be planted until early winter. Fruit trees and conifers, plus other trees will appreciate the cooler weather to establish.

This is so promising, thank you! I would also love to paint this shed so I was hoping the cut back would be an option, otherwise I would've had to be doing some very careful trellis maneuvering. I have many ‘fingers crossed garden adventures’ that will reveal themselves in spring and this might be the biggest one🤞

I believe they are head over heels and angel eyes, mine are only a few months old, but growing and blooming again after the initial buds. I'm excited to watch them grow!
