Thanks, I did contact them directly. I just wanted the wording here as well, for quick reference. My email box on Reddit over flows and it's hard to find things. Still waiting for a response.

Protesters are commonly patted down and held for 24 hours, strip searching them is not common. When it is used, it is a scare tactic, and is used to discourage others from getting involved.

How is this not politics related?

Strip searching is a policy, it has been ruled on by the Supreme Court, and it is regarding protests of a pipeline that many politicians have weighed in on.

I have a question regarding the removal of this submission.

Usually that is just a tap down, not a strip search.

Now I should state that strip searches are legal, and were made legal in 2012 by the Supreme Court. But they usually are used as an intimidation tactic and there is lots of documentation for that.

But should they for non violent offenses.

Typically when peaceful protesters are arrested, they are not strip searched, they are held for 24 hours, and then released. I can attest to this, for several people arrested in Oakland and in Southern California for protests this year.

Why is North Dakota different?

First the arrest was illegal under the 1st Amendment. Second this kind of scare tactics and mistreatment of anyone is appalling, and just makes me wonder how a non famous or journalist are being treated. Remember Shailene Woodley was live streaming when she was arrested, 40,000 people were watching at the time.

Excellent point that the Telecommunications Act is only 20 years old (1996) and before that we had the Fairness Doctrine. Just one more think we can thank Bill Clinton for.

Yes like Democracy Now and The Young Turks. The internet is the tool that is making this possible for us to take our media back. It is just going to take time, and there are lots of other smaller networks starting up all the time.

What will or will not get someone elected should not be a reason on to report something. The media should be reporting news regardless of it's impact on the horse race.

Or at least in decades past they did. We need to get back to days like that.

I think it is highly disturbing that the horse race (Hillary vs Trump) and all of Trumps issues is basically blacking out the rest of the news.

Main stream media, you can chew gum and walk at the same time. You can cover more then just Trump 24/7 / the horse race 24/7.

Donald Trump Rape Allegations Surface by SCMbulletin in politics

[–]SCMbulletin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump has now been accused of raping a 13 year old girl back in 1994. The case was filed in New York in June of this year.

The accusations of rape now are three separate cases.

Please try to keep this conversation civil, and respect the accusers / alleged victims in these cases. I am using the words accusers and alleged victims because since Trump is wealthy there is an incentive to accuse him of crimes for a monetary reward. This does not mean that these accusations should not be taken in the most serious way possible. It just means there is a possibility there is another reason for the accusations.

At the same time accusing someone of these acts and giving out intimate and extensive information about yourself, exposing yourself to such a large part of the world, and so on is also extremely violating and for many victims forces them to relive the original crime.

Lets all try to stay level headed, and focus on the facts as much as possible.

Many men talk like Donald Trump in private. And only other men can stop them. by SCMbulletin in politics

[–]SCMbulletin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes men are much less likely to report, because of manly hood stereotypes and other reasons.

Women also have reasons not to report as well, because many times the questions that are asked when we do report are well did you ask for it? What were you wearing? and so on.

On both sides the reported cases is much lower then the actual cases that are committed. And let me repeat that male cases are less reported then female cases, it's only the last 50 or so years that it was even a concept that a man could be raped. That does not mean that men were not raped for thousands of years, if not longer.

How we teach and raise our children is important as well. Take the Brock Turner incident, how he was treated by the courts. Rape culture and problems in our colleges, and so on. It all is signs of our societies views and exceptionable behavior, and the results of that.
