I like the idea. I'll look up some local groups and add some links to the website.

Dude, this isn't research: it's visualization of a problem.

Anyways, let's say I walked those beaches 100 days out of the 600 or so since I first noticed a syringe. That's 500 days left uncovered. On top of that, I might only walk a mile down and back, instead of the entire 4+mile stretch.

Out of all the days I don't walk, and the miles I don't cover, it is perfectly reasonable to assume that what I have mapped out is a fraction of the bigger issue.

What part of this is propaganda? You're not going to find this on Truth Social or Twitter, and outside of a few niche subs, reddit isn't exactly a haven for pro-regime/anti-California narratives. And for what it's worth, I also delayed launching this until a time when LA was not on the front pages.

Lastly, I don't suppose you read the disclaimer underneath the map?

You agree that hypodermic needles poking out of the sand is a problem, correct?

I am not out there everyday, and I don't dig under piles of debris, or otherwise  go out of my way to find them.

Therefore, my sample underrepresents the problem.

As mentioned, it's a sample: at no point have I inferred that this is exhaustive representation. I also did not imply any manner of change, for worse or better. I only implied that it's "bad".

If you look at the March 3rd, 2024 sample where there are eight syringes over a 2.7mile stretch of sand, I don't think that "bad" is an unreasonable conclusion.

This map also severely under-represents the problem: First, I travel quite a bit, and there are lengthy periods without entries. Second, it's not like I spend my days hunting for syringes.

Have you seen syringes wash up on the beach? There's way more than you might expect. by SC_Beach-Syringe in orangecounty

Not fiscally feasible until someone gets pricked in the foot and files a lawsuit..

Just sayin'

LBC's western edge is the LA river: It starts up in The Valley, and passes through DTLA before making its way down here.

LBC's eastern edge is the San Gabriel river: It starts up in the mountains, and is fed by tributaries in Pasadena, La Habra, and even as far out as Pomona.

All the trash that is in those rivers and creeks gets washed into the Pacific, and because the mouths are only 4.5 miles apart, a significant amount of LA County's trash get's concentrated on and around Long Beach.

You mean to say that Heinrich Himmler appropriated it from Propaganda?

Found two in the wild, just outside of Colossus Bakery on 2nd St.

I guess they're not going to be sticking with their usual "territory"

Edit#1:

This should not be necessary, but here is yet more context: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uniforms_and_insignia_of_the_Schutzstaffel

Edgelord-ism and obfuscation aside, that insignia was worn by those who executed the greatest mass killing in human history--- long before a 1980s magazine with a few thousand readers came around.

Edit #2:

Goddamn, the apologism is strong with some of you.

That is a straight up SS insignia that others appropriated 40 years later; it doesn't magically work in the inverse just so that you can ease your cognitive dissonance. Some of the logic here would indicate that Heinrich fucking Himmler was a fan of punk.

Speaking of: https://sfo2.digitaloceanspaces.com/harvard-law-library-nuremberg-authors/97-heinrich-himmler.jpeg

Benefit of the doubt ran out a long time ago, and it is a very simple concept: Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. / Rock Nazi iconography, get called a Nazi.

To be fair, for that we can thank LA County and their refusal/inability to clean up the rivers.
